Well guys and the couple gals, I just finished my SR swap I swing by my local auto parts store (Consumer Auto Parts) and I pick up oil (royal purple), coolant(some pre-mixed prestone), and am pricing out transmission fluid and the guys says, knowing its an SR, that the computer says 9 quarts. I am doing a full fill but I read somewhere else on here 2 and a half or 3 and a half quarts. I haven't bought it yet, so is it really 9 quarts?

God no! 9 quarts is over 2 gallons! It's 4.25 pints IIRC (but most people don't seem to realize that when they quote that from the FSM it is in Imperial Quarts, which are different than American quarts). Anyway, it equates to ~2.5 quarts so you have to order 3 quarts of GL-4 trans fluid. Do not use GL-5 in the trans. It is bad for the brass synchros. After you drain the trans fluid, fill it up through the shifter hole (it's easier to fill that way) and then insert your finger into the hole on the top side of the trans (the fill hole). Fill the trans with fluid until it is level with the bottom of the hole.

Thats what I thought, I was like 9 quarts?! Thats like $72! Not to mention A LOT of fluid. Ok, so thats settled. You say GL-4, that's also known as MT-90 right? I'm probly going with royal purple cuz the store has it and they dont have redline, but idk what royal purple says it is, gl-4 or mt-90. They are both the same right?

MT-90 is a name for one of two Red Line Oil GL-4 trans fluids (the other is MTL and is for some BMW, Honda, and Acura transmissions). MT-90 is 75w90 in weight. But yeah, that's the equivalent of what you need, a GL-4 75w90.

Quick and important question for you guys that have already done this.

When you drained your transmission fluid, did you also change the transmission filter? Someone told to not bother changing the oil if I'm not going to replace the filter.

Lastly, does the SR20DET share the same filter as the KA24DE? Please help! My car is sitting on jacks in my garage as we speak.

I searched the whole forum and couldn't find anything...

Apparently, my manual transmission doesn't have a filter. This is from the tech guy at sr20store.com

I thought I would mention this in case anyone runs into this in the future.
