Ok, I recently finished my ca18det swap and traded my T3/T4 and manifold from my blown ka-t for cash and a gt28r that I installed in place of the T25. I installed it together with the engine at the same time. Now, 200 miles later the compressor wheel is hitting the housing but the turbo doesnt smoke. Checked the turbo, lots of shaft play or at least alot of compressor wheel play as I only checked it from the compressor side so far.

Is it possible that the original oil feed line for the T25 is too small for the gt28r? Where did I go wrong? Did I get a bad trade?

is this a real GT28R, if the compressor wheel is hitting the compressor housing pretty much turbo is done. A GT28R is a ball bearing turbo and cant be rebuilt. The original oil feed line is fine.

Yes you got a bad trade.

yeah, if its new though garrett will warranty it... but that does not sound like the case. ive been running a gt28r for several years and its been noting but a fantastic little turbo. ive always used the stock lines, and ive never had a problem with it.

When I checked the turbo b4 install I noticed a little shaft play but not to bad for a used turbo, but it sucks these things can't be rebuilt. I never checked the line for oil. I'm going to install a flex line this time to make things a little easier. Looks like I kinked the line to the turbo slightly but it was still enough space for oil to go thru. I also noticed the S15 feed line I got with the turbo has a bigger diameter than the ca18 line, hence my feed line question. Thanks for all the responses and info.
