I built my own box (first one ever), and installed it all myself. All of which is my first time. It came out really good. Tell me what you think.10" JL sub, with MTX 280 watt AMP.

Toby Broadfield helped me over the phone a lot. Shout out to you, Thx so much! (I also bought all my stuff from him except the amp, GREAT PRICES)

Sounds great, I love it so much. Before anyone asks, I will be re-carpeting the spare tire cover to match.

Everything came out better than I expected it to. I want Toby to chime in and check it out since I kept calling him, lol. I think like 3 times today, and several other times the past weeks.

this is coming from a professional car audio installer:

that is absolutely delicious. GREAT work. so fresh, so organized/planned out... and takes up 0 space.

this is the first time on NICO that ive been truly impressed with a DIY audio install from a non-pro. awesome work dude.

thx for the comments. It took me awhile to do since I have school and work, but I finally got it done. Looked up how to do all this stuff on the internet, and just took my time with it.My next project is small but should be a nice addition to my simple yet pleasing system. Little hint is it involves my iPhone.

What are you using to keep it from moving around?

Where exactly and when?
AAV240sx wrote:What are you using to keep it from moving around?
In the last picture you can see the brackets on the sides. I put one L bracket on the side closest to the tail lights (very tight fit), then on the opposite side I used 2 L brackets, one the same size as the small one and as you cna see in the picture a much larger one. Then on top of all that, or the bottom I guess I sohuld say, I put 3 strips of velcro glued to the carpet just for a tad extra support. It wont go anywhere.

Also for the amp, I didn't want to drill into that hump since the gas tank is there so under the carpet there I glued down a piece of extra MDF board using Heavy Duty Liquid Nails.

Looks great, but from a best-sound point of view, the speaker is pointing the wrong way.

If you point the speaker 180 degrees from its position now (into the fender), it will make the bass hits waaay more crisp.

The standard of all box making is to use MDf (medium density Fiberboard). As for the carpet, I got it from a stereo/alarm place for $9 a yard.

I used these sites to help me:

http://ccs.exl.info/calc_box.html http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/subbox.html

When you buy a sub they have the recommended volume on the instructions or whatever. Then just make a box out of cardboard to test fit. I made a total of three before I got the dimensions I wanted. Toby Broadfield hooked it up with all the wires I needed to hook everything up. Give him a call or e-mail.

well i already have subs and all the goodies but its really messy.

everything is hooked up and its been playing for a while now no problem.but some how i manage to blow one of the sub and now i have 1 left so i decide to just make a nice box for a single sub. i have mono amp so its fine.

i got some one working at a piano factory which have alot of wood and i am wondering what kind it is but no one knows

btw do you know the difference between partical boards and fiber boards?

btw i have 12s so i need a much bigger box

i dont know what the difference is, but i know there is one. Let me look it up on wikipedia.
wikipedia.com wrote:Particle board, or particleboard, (called "chipboard" in some countries) is an engineered wood product manufactured from wood particles, such as wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even saw dust, and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded. Particleboard is a type of fiberboard, a composite material, but it is made up of larger pieces of wood than medium-density fibreboard and hardboard.

Medium-density fiberboard (MDF or MDFB) is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down softwood into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.[1] It is a building material similar in application to plywood but made up of separated fibers, not wood veneers. It is denser than normal particle board.
Basically from what I understand is MDF uses soft wood ground into more fine grains, while particle board has slightly larger "chips"

Lol, yea my uncle actually gave it to my brother. My brother had it as just extra power for his system that cost about $3000 (waste of money in my opinion). Then when he sold the car with all the stuff removed I took it to use for myself.

Looks good man. Funny, I put my amp in the same place now I need to copy your box. I built one to put over the spare in the middle but it rattles the pi$$ out of anything I put over it .

It also looks like you went with a larger power wire .

Looks good. What's on the other side of the trunk? Was it possible to put it there to help balance out the weight (opposit side of where the driver sits)

Nothing on the other side. But I will be relocating the battery there so I can run intercooler piping.

Is the box you made ported? Does porting it make it sound any better? Just wondering, my unusually big computer sub (I think is like 8") has a giant hole in the side. I'm no audio expert as you can see....

I did a sealed box, and I am in the same boat as you. I don't know crap about audio, I just know how to wire SOME stuff up if I know where they go, lol. I forget exactly what the difference is between ported and sealed. But all I know is sealed boxes are generally smaller and I wanted it to be compact.
