So I got this email and wanted to share with everyone, get opinions and such. -----------------------------------------------------------------CHECK OUT THESE TIRES !

These tires are made in South Carolina , USA .

SEE THROUGH TIRES.Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

Yes, those are 'spoke' like connections to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!' The next picture shows how odd it looks in motion....

Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it?

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these.Just think of the impact on existing technology:A. no more air valves...B. no more air compressors at gas stations...C. no more repair kits...D. no more flats...These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

So there it is, let the discussion begin.

I think they are incredibly cool. I am still trying to figure out what the advantage is of these since it seems like they would use more "rubber" since the surface area of the "spokes" of the tires are much larger than the sidewalls, therefore not cheaper.

What do you think the load index on those is Szhosain?

uber repost... this thing was brought up maybe 3+ years ago. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Not the original thread, but still:zerothread?id=315752

Yes, there ugly and seriously doubt they will become for sale. Reason: I see ice, snow, mud, rocks, stickys, and whatever else can find their way in those slots and wrecking havoc on your vehicle! Agreed? Now, maybe if they through a sidewall on it, then it would be a lot more road worthy. The airless design is pretty cool, but it has a long way to come before I ever place them on one of my vehicles.

Nice about the repost lol. First I have seen it so new to me. i think they look cool. makes sense about the snow and junk getting in the tire causing problems. Maybe they are trying to "insure" getting away from catatrophic blowouts? throw the sidewall on like M4T5 said and it would be road worthy

Definitely not new, as mentioned. Doubtful it'll be coming out for consumers anytime soon.

There is no reason they can't toss a rubber sidewall to the tires to protect the insides. They leave it open because its a demo... from a year or 2 or 3 ago?

Oh and for more info... search "Tweel".

I have no idea!

One other "problem" will be one for the folks here who like to waste ... uh, spend ... their hard-earned money on wheels. The "tweel" comes attached to the wheel - cannot be removed, as I recall. The way to replace the tire requires you to replace the whole wheel combination - presumably sent back to the factory for new rubber then.

I saw these tires a year or so ago in an article. They were actually talking about to put sidewall also to make it look like "normal" tires.

Also they were talking about the ride noise being high with these tires. It was too high but the side wall should take care of it.

I was going to blame OP's 3yr old repost on the fact that he is from KY... but, I am from KY too (albeit northern KY), and I have read about that new Michelin design at least 2-3 years ago.

I see you are claiming Cincinnati in your info. I lived up in Florence for about a year a few years back.

Don't know how I missed this a couple of years back. I wasn't on any forums at the time even though I had a Prelude that I did a bunch of superficial mods to at the time... who knows??

The Volkswagen Touraeg actually has a design like this on the spare from about two years ago. It is an I-beam design instead of all those fins.
