Struts dont change the height of your car. Springs do.

Personally, I think the wheel gap on S13's are absolutely 4X4ish unnaturally humongous (especially the fronts). Most people recommend replacement OEM suspension because they're cheaper and lowered ride = harsher/bottoming out ride.

I'm not a big fan of modding my car out, and I like to keep things OEM because I guess I'm a conservative enthusiast. But I do strongly recommend aftermarket suspension, namely Tokico HP and Eibach Pro-Kit. I didnt even consider aftermarket suspension until my shocks were shot too. This setup appeals primarily for those who want a decent stock-looking ride. The springs lower just enough so the gap is reduced to one that is comparable to today's stock cars (lowers about 1"). The ride quality is not very noticeable harsher (but i can tell since Ive been on stock suspension for over a year prior to upgrading), and I have never bottomed out, so the ride quality is not lost. However, what was most impressive was the handling. If i knew this earlier, I wouldve upgraded in an instant. The handling is much smoother and body roll is dramatically decreased.

And if youre going to change your shocks, you can still ride with stock springs and be OK. There wont really be a noticeable difference in ride quality. But dont do it vice-versa. Stock shocks with aftermarket springs is not good.

btw, I too have a 91 fastback.

yeah replacing just the springs for better control without replacing your struts will make you feel like you're riding on a buggy being pulled by a horse at 50 mph.

i concur about the fenderwell gap. too much.

however, i'm still running stock. this stuff isnt free, unfortunately.
