Finally got around to installing my Tein SS coilovers today. I bought new strut mounts and bearings to make the install go quicker since I didn't want to deal with PITA spring compressors, and having a back up set of struts in case something catastrophically failed :ohno: sounded like a good idea.

Everything was going smoothly, I didn't lose much blood yanking off the old struts, and setting up the SS's went smoothly. Then I started tightening everything down, and the the rearward strut mount bolt starts spinning while threaded on about halfway, for each coilover... then the outer ones were not threading-in very easily. I made sure I did not cross thread them, so I decided to check out the rear bolts.

Both looked the same; the first 5mm or so of the threads are stripped, then I checked out the 2 outer ones and the same thing (the 2 inner were from RacingLine's stb, which were fine). Looks like this happened at the factory since they thread in nicely on the old mount, but not so much on the new mounts with virgin threads. (now that I think about it, the nuts on the new mounts are likely mucked up a little bit  )

Anyways, just a heads up for those DIYers who are wanting/needing new strut mounts: if you can, try to see if your bolts are stripped, or just order new bolts along with the mounts to minimize any headaches and down time.

Congrats, what's your thoughts on the Tein SS?

Initial impression: good stuff. On my commute home from work, I used to almost get thrown out of my seat by sharply uneven/unlevel sections of road. Now the same stretches of road are bearable. I really haven't had much time on them, I was finally able to source some proper grade bolts for the upper strut mounts and I still need an alignment. I currently have the dampening at the "standard" 4 position (12 clicks from stiffest).

The good: Vs. the OEM strut+Eibach combo, the SS's (obviously) have much smoother compression and rebound, which is what I was looking for. The car just feels more planted now.

The bad: I forgot the RacingLine's front endlinks were not compatible (too thick). Luckily I kept the OEM links; a unfortunate compromise that I would take every time.

Now I am wondering if the RL's stb is compatible with the edfc motors as well. If not, I may have to bust out the Dremel b/c the stb is a keeper.

This is exactly the type of description I was looking for, thank you.

I read a thread a while back about the BC coils not fitting right with the RL strut bar but Im pretty sure that member got it to work. Search might pull it up. (This is assuming I read your post correctly, it sounds like you are removing the strut bar in order to install the coils.)

Nice review beeristasty. I like my ride stiff and currently use 12/10. I don't see why the EDFC will not work/fit with a aftermarket strut bar. Shouldn't be an issue.
