I'm buying a new motor cause I don't wanna rebuild the one I have.

If it's all factory specs how much power can i reliably make with a good tune.

I know the factory motors come with forged cranks and (rods?) but the pistons aren't forged.

Also, when I get the motor, aside from the break-in, is there anything I should do or check?

How much are you getting the motor for?The stock KA's can handle 300-350 with a VERY good tune.Yeah, the stock rods are forged. The weakest part in the KA are the pistons.Replace front & rear main seals.

check out "adding a turbo to the stock KA" thread. It'l answer many of your questions.

It's brand new for $1200 -$1400 depending on what I want done to it before I get it.

The rods are the weak point, they are not forged. The pistons will handle more then 500whp and the rods bend right around 500. 350 is considered a reliable number.

You can probably have your motor built with forged rods for the price your spending for stock parts...

At that price, it sounds like the OP is getting a stock-type rebuild from a rebuild house. I would be very wary of trusting those places. They do A LOT of rebuilds as cheaply as possible with the cheapest parts they can find.

Just a new stock short block (no heads or anything) is probably going to run you $2k to $2.5k from a dealer.

Ok, so if I buy the short block from the dealer, then build my old head, It will be more expensive, however, it'll be better reliabilty wise in the long run?

Also, I can't seem to find and dual valve springs gor the E. I want this baby to rev.

WD the KA's rods are forged

Thanks for the info guys however I've done some thinking and I'm goin carbed. Different and simple.

How do I convert my ignition to fire if I'm not using the stock ecu?

Awful idea and not simple at all. Custom intake manifold and a standalone ignition controller for something with less response and less power then efi.

No they are not. They are shot peened and they are weaker then the pistons. It has been proven on the dyno time and again that the rods are the weak link and by weak I mean they bend at or near 500whp. The pistons do fine if you control detonation. So if your goals are more then 450, do a full rebuild with forged internals. If not, the stock parts are fine. I use 350 as a safe reliable number for a long lasting KAT.

OP, figure out what your actual goals are. Carbed is a bad idea IMO. Buying a stock motor from a dealer is a bad idea. You're wasting tons of money here...

Figure out what you want to do with the car and get back to us. We can help, but we need a budget and a goal.

correct me if im wrong but i think they are dual springs from the factory.not many people have problems running with stock ones. what is your goal rev limit?
