My front rotors were junk so I called Joe and he had one more set of the Stillen crossed drilled rotors so I snagged em. They look awesome the brakes actually work now, amazing. Joe's out of these now and he says he's not going to get any more. I believe he still has a set of rears but I couldn't justify spending the money although it would be nice to have a matching set.

i used to have them, stillen claimed to be Brembo but i never saw any markings. they worked well for me w/ the stillen pads, until i got a bad set of pads from stillen that destroyed the rotors.Did not think stillen had rears, i had Bradi rears from brake warehouse (they were doodie)

Rob Swicki told me that some of the corvette guys put the rotors on backwards, say work better that way, forget the name of the company, but very reputable

On Brembo rotors the holes / slots are designed to sweep forwards like that too.

Yeah, I know, but my point is that Brembo specifically state that they should sweep forward not backward.

Quote from instructions...

"The rotors are packaged and marked as passenger (right) side and driver (left) side and are ready for installation."

That's how they are installed. The image above is the driver side and it was labeled 'L'.

Joe said these were made with "Brembo blanks" whatever that means. Sounds cool tho. I looked thoroughly and couldn't find any "Brembo" evidence.

They are Brembo blanks drilled by Stillen.

Have them on one of my G50 front with OEM pads and after 20+K miles, absolutely no vibrations.

Plain Brembo blanks are cheap from TR.

You must have bought the last set from the batch Joe ordered for me back in 2002! I have been happy with these rotors... just had them turned and put new pads on last week.

Difficult to use on the car lathe, any RIGID PROFESSIONAL LATHE will work use new bit and reduce the rpm to slow to avoid chatter as the bit hits the hole. Follow sanding proccedure after the cut and clean with soapy water not petroleum solvent.

Sometimes takes two fine cuts to avoid chatter marks.

I had mine turned at O'Reilly auto parts. They just opened all of their stores here in Columbia, so I thought their new machines would be a good bet.

I didn't know about the cleaning process... Just sprayed them down with brake parts cleaner before putting them back on. Tech, can you elaborate on the sanding and cleaning process that you recommend?

Also, I didn't have time to index them - but I did the first time, and I put them back in the same position as before. Honestly I didn't notice a huge difference in the "time to warp" after indexing vs. just slapping them on there... we'll see how it goes this time.

I know that some people believe that setting the cross-drill sweeps one way (or the other) is better, but it really does not matter! I remember reading about some actual experiments (but can't find the references now for some reason) that showed no perceptible difference mounted either way.

So, I would not worry about it much. Certainly follow the Stillen or Brembo recommendations if you want to, but it is not important, IMHO.

Of course, if the rotor were a two-piece, with air evacuation nearer the hub as well, then I would consider making it work so that the air went "outward" on the vanes inside the rotor, as the car rotated forward.Z

I would imagine that different brands recommend different things.

Q-tech is right about the soap and water too, always the way to clean after turning. I use dish soap and a green scrubby pad.

Day in day out life: probably resembles soapy water more than spray brake cleaner.

Time to warp: indexing and grinding to 0.0005" obviously takes longer than if you start out at 0.0028" [out of spec to begin with] by radomly installing new rotors.

Never calculated the warp rate in millonths of an inch per degree /above 300F/ per mile................but I have noticed it's something like 0.001" per 2,000 miles on my Q.
