I just replaced the starter on my KA, and now it seems to be working fine except that when the starter is cranking the engine there is a whining sound. I have been told that this is a problem that occurs on engines that require shims on the starter when there the starter is too far out. But since the KA doesn't (too my knowledge) needs shims and I didn't put any on, I am not sure what the deal is. Any help is appriciated, thanks!

I've never heard of a japanese engine needing shims. More of an american thing. Could be wrong though but I highly doubt the KA needs shims. Where is the starter from?

It's a Duralast starter from Autozone. Someone said they though it might just be whining because it's in some sort of break-in process, but I have never heard of that. I believe your right about the shims.
