Sooo I have a 96 240sx SE, 5 speed if that matters at all and my speedometer has been crapping out on me lately but only for minutes or seconds at a time if left alone. But if you tap the plastic or the dash near the speedo it comes right back.

Whats going on? Is there something loose, can it be fixed or do I need a new speedo. And by the way everything else works perfectly never a problem.

I was eventually going to go with a custom speedo and rpm set up like Broadfield's ( zerothread?id=264243 ). And Im not just saying that I love fabrication I've already fabed some led DRLs to match my hid's and im in the process of a tsx projector fab. I just don't wanna start tearing my dash apart when it could be something simple.... PLEASE HELP

yeah I think whenever we have another dry day down here I will try and take the dash apart and see what I can find.

SERIOUSly no one else has experienced this problem

I had a similar problem in my '90......my speedo would out of no where jump up to 115 and stay there and if I smacked the dash, it would jump back to where it should be.

I also thought it was my speedo.....so I got 2 gauge clusters from a junkyard... still did the same thing on both...i went back to the junkyard and pulled the speed sensor off the transmission and now the speedo works great.

Not sure if yours will be the same thing, but I only paid $5 for the used sensor, so it was worth trying.

just my 2 cents
