Yo whats up got an 04 spec v about a month ago just joined the forum. Anyways lookin to make it quick i already ordered a cold air intake and want to put in a performance exhaust apart from that what can i do to this car thats relatively inexpensive that will yield significant horsepower gains. I know i can boost it but im not sure if im trying to go the turbo route. All said and done i want it to have about 250hp . Thanks for the help/advice.

250 crank or wheels?

Intake, exhaust, header (also a preventative maintenance item), loctite butterfly screws (also preventative), balance shaft removal, cams, and an ECU reflash will put you into the 200s at least at the crank, but 250whp is pretty much boost only unless you start swapping out pistons and such.

250 crank is almost feasable. not at the wheel.I think the most anyone has gotten at the wheel NA from a B15 Spec V is 200whp (and even that is disputed). At the Crank the B15 Spec V has stock roughly 145-150whp. Intake, Header, Exhaust, Cams, Pulleys, SAFC2, timing advance and pass through Midpipe would get you around 190-195ish to the wheel at the crank that is roughly 225-230hp. anything else would have to be gained through Polished intake manifold and throttle body.

Travis i think was able to pull more using a custom engine build (See SQR23) Which wasnt cheap. so, there really isnt a cheap method of making big power outside of bolt-ons. Either Turbo or Engine swap (VQ30, VQ35, SR20DET or Modded SR20VE) will get you there and beyond easier.

Trav's SQR23 ended up as a DET I believe. It's insanely quick. I saw a vid at one point where it blasted through 3rd and 4th gears like they were 1st and 2nd.

ive had the car about a month its got 55k so still a baby. I was talking 250 at the crank, 250 whp while it would be sick is a little unrealistic for me. If i was to boost it how much would an average set up cost me ive seen the ebay ones that are like 1,000- 1,500 but some people have told me it costs like 3-5 grand, hwtas the actual deal.

remember that most of the time you get what you pay for. Some people have actually pieced together turbo kits from EBay parts for about 2 1/2 grand. But you really have to know what you are doing. Complete kits from reputable companies that do all the hard stuff of gathering the right parts cost anywhere from 3 to 4k. then Labor if you are not doing it yourself.

Particularly on the QR25, I'd suggest buying a brand name kit and avoiding Ebay. 3k is more realistic. The engine is somewhat fragile as-is, so the wrong boost setup can be detrimental.
