So since there wasn't much in the way of sound in the trunk my buddy Ron is making me a sub box. But there was a catch.....had to be lighter than the spare tire, air can, support board, and trunk mat. So a sub, a box, and a templet and the amp had to come in lighter and sit no higher than the stock stuff. So that it was sneaky sneaky but cool at the same time...even got carpet that matches the stock stuff to cover it all up (you'll see the amp faces and sub face for the show effect).

Here's a couple shots of test fitting it....

Laid the stock trunk mat over it in the last pic

What do you guys think of it? A little less weight a little better sound, a little more bling, and yet will be clean when done. I'm not much of a system guy, ok not a system guy at all, but it'll work for shows and will sound good when movies are playing or i'm playing Gran Turismo

Wow...what kind of materials you using for the box and it will be sealed right? How many cu. ft. will it be? Also, are you going to have anything covering the sub for protection? I know if it were me, I might forget a sub is under the mat and accidentally throw something in the trunk. What amp are you using? Man, that is kind of a hard task...to get it lighter than the spare. I know the sub I am getting itself weights 60lbs even though its only a 12". Well, once you have it done, would it be possible for you to take some pics or maybe a vid of it in action?

2 subs + spare + amps = extra un-needed weight. Plus its not even close to stock height. Thanks though.

isn't any sub unnecessary weight though?

I dunno man, my buddy makes the stereo stuff, so as for materials and such when its done I'll get all the info. But I know its sealed, and its enough cu. ft. for the sub. And as stated in the post the sub face will be seen as will the amp faces, i'm going to carpet the templete, the stock carpet is over it just now as its stored for the winter in my garage. But the sub and box are light, very light. But yeah I'll get more pics and info once its up and running in the spring.

PSH no!! Music is important to some people. As long as something serves a purpose besides looking pretty aka has some substance, its all good in my book.

PS. Same goes thing goes for people. I like my women with brains.

Very nice instal man. Though one could argue that removing the spare and other junk and not replacing uit would be in the best interest of speed. But hey who likes to drive with out good tunes? I'll tell you who COMMUNIST![size] Or people who simply dont like to listen to music while driving.

I should have enough HP to make up for it. And its still lighter than stock so I'm ok. And if it happens to make my car too slow I'll just build the heads

Nice. I have a bit of a system, just one 12, but it's in a small box that is just strapped down in the trunk. That way when I go auto-x, I just pull it out, no extra weight. It looks like ****, but I have plans to make a show car, just a fast car that has tunes for the daily drive.

nsrZ32 - I posted to offer another idea of how to arrange. One option is to build 2 pieces with the amp offset in one side and the sub in the other and make them "removable". All the sub connections could easily disconnect from the amp section and the amp section could have racing type battery quick disconnections. With one sub, you should be able to maintain stock height. I should have explained my posts a little better. Sorry about that.

Now for my weight reduction [rant] (this isn't directed at you so please don't take it personally, but ...)Too often people think of every pound as taking away performance and won't add pound's to their car in the way of creature comforts. Do these same people never "race" with a passeneger in the car (160-220lbs)? A full tank of gas (8 gallons = 64lbs)? Do they have the lightest alloys, in the smallest diameter (rotating mass)? Have they replaced the largest windows with plexi?[/rant]

This may get me ripped a new one, but eh.

Its cool man, I just saw like 200lbs of stuff in that pic and was like ummm no. But as for removable mine will be as well. The templete is two pieces, like a 75/25 split and will be hinged so I can swing up part to remove it (wont be able to see any of it though and it'll look like 1 piece). I'll post lots of info up on it later as I think its a good setup for Z's and I'm sure my buddy could help anybody out off of here who would want one (he just does it out of his garage).

Thanks for clearing it up though I was wondering what was up with that.

As for the weight reduction thing, I'm with you, and I'm not completely a nut that's out to drop every pound, I mean look at my car lol. But when I can I like to drop some weight not add it. My car is 350lbs lighter than stock and you wouldn't know it
