Hey everybody. I was thinking of getting a nissan 240sx but wasn't completly sure. I wanted some opinions first, so i decided to come here, where the enthusiasts (spl?) are. So what could ya'll tell me about the car from ya'lls standpoint? i'm looking for more than just "i love this car". pros and cons. stuff like that.thanks

Pros...fun to drive, one of the last real sport compacts, RWDCons...slightly underpowered engine (KA24(d)e), RWD (yeah its both...especially if you can't control it)

ask for anything that you would want in a car, besides stock power and "under-cupholdered" (classic), and the 240 has it, but if u want one, hurry up cuz they are getting uber popular and hard to find and eventually more $. but i love my car, i wrote a whole thread about it.

I'd say the big pros are great bang:buck ratio, great handling, tons of options in the power dept. (KA turbo, SR, CA, RB), and styling. One thing to look for is timing chain rattle. It's a ticking noise coming from the front of the motor inside the timing chain covers and a lot of S13s seem to have the problem. If you buy a car w/ this problem, you're looking at about $300 in parts alone to fix it. Still, if you find a good deal or you're gonna do a swap anyway it isn't a big deal. Also, fastbacks w/ a factory spoiler have a bad habit of the hatch rusting under the spoiler. I'm one of the lucky ones with no rust (yet). Don't doubt the potential of the KA. There are people having great results through turbocharging the stock motor.

LOL, That's exactly what I do, SilSweet.

Pop that baby out and stick a can of coke or even better, any size fast food softdrink. ;)

For S13....

Pros - styling, RWD, frameless windows, etc blah blah blah do a search.

Cons - automatic electric seatbelts, no cupholder, underpowered (but then again today's standards are higher), no airbags, huge 4x4 wheel gap, uncomfortable stock seats, 4lug wheels, foam spoiler on fastbacks, front and rear bumpers fade pretty badly, headlights sorta dim but OK, uncomfortable for backseat passengers, sunroof noise, lacking standard options, very few have VLSD, interior space is rather limited (compared to Integra for example), could use bigger brakes (like the equivalents in Japan)

its a great first car to own, responds well to modification, and isn't to expensive to fix when you screw it up trying to drift. On the down side everyone will ask you is you have an SR20 swap, its near impossible to find one in good condition at low miles, and you can't drive them in the snow.

If you find the good deal, it's pretty much the bast bang for a buck, for what i paid for mine i am very satisfied from what i get, the only thing is the lack of back seat space, but besides that i had no problems, engine is fine (124k) no rust anywhere, it runs excellent, I am very satisfied with my buy.

On the downside, your car-crazed peers will expect you to be a JDM turbo drifter just because your car is among the most popular sports cars in Japan. Sometimes I just wanna tell them straight up "it's just a car, people!" but I dont wanna hurt their feelings, and you know how young people get all sensitive about their cars.

I'm new here but as far as the bang for the buck saying....

Just found a new project car 90-240sx RUNNING with a KA SOHC...for 750, hazy paint....engine compartment is still pretty clean, interior is a bit F'd but I drove her it still pulls hard...little dents here and there..so DORI DORI here we come LOL:ylsuper
