Was just wondering what yu guys have to offer bout this motor swap...my car already has an sohc but im just replacing it with another...im having a professional mechanic do the swap but is there anything that should be looked out for or anything notorious with pulling the motor? im going to have him swap my timing chain , guides, and tentioner and cover over while the motor is out because the right guide is completely gone and its hitting on the case. if my motor mounts happen to be bad what should i do about them? because the ones on the new motor are shot..and advanced auto parts quoted them for $95 dollars a peice.! any suggestions at all just shoot em out!

Thanks, Garrett H,NY

How about you don't put another sohc engine in it. Since you're already paying a professional to swap it for you, I would go with at least a newer DOHC engine. But I guess you've already got another sohc ready to go. oh well.

The swap isn't hard at all. Just time consuming and need a helping hand. Take sme longer to disconnect my turbo stuff than it is to get my engine out.How much are they charging you to swap it?

yeah..its so hard to find a DOHC close to home here in NY for a reasonable price..i paid 125 for the new sohc..and itll be around 3-400 for the swap

wow good price!

was the replacement engine compression-tested?

pull oil pan to see more of the bottom end & check oil pickup for clogging? may as well change out the gasket since that's PITA to do while in the car...

whooo eeeeeeee~

that timing guide is original, before-the-total-recall-age... new, revised timing guides for the SOHC has a metal backing to them to prevent the chaing from rubbing into the water jackets... how's the front timing cover?

guess you find out where the oil pickup was when u removed the oil pan? Hope the screen wasn't clogged...

thanks for the advice before rice bike..there was tiny particles of the guide in the screen but i took it off and blasted it with engine brite..and then water...and allowed it to air dry..its very clean now...lots of sludge built up in the oil pan as well..fluished with gasloine..when we do the motor swap gonan replace all gaskets and have him swap my new timign guides over from my blown motor

the rear main will be a real pita to do when the engine is in later. reason, you gotta pull the transmission, clutch, and pressure plate. get that one done while it's out for the love of god. The front one's pretty easy to do when it's out but should be done anyway if you're pullin the front cover to do the chain stuff.
