I was wondering if anyone has popped off their side mirror cover ? I wanna know how they did it so I dont break the plastic. I see how it goes together on the service manual but it doesnt say where to pop it apart.

Im going to install signal mirrors like the first gen m45. I love how it looks on Benzs as well.

Heres a pic of what it will look like.

I think the lense is too big compared to most I've seen. It still looks pretty good though. The only other ones I've seen are the ones that lay over the OE housing. Even those are pricey! Who makes those you posted in the pic?How much does each mirror shell cost with the signal lights included?

I like these: http://www.burtmanindustries.c...rrors

I'm just not liking the idea of them being lay overs. So the Fuga uses a lay over mirror shell over the OE shell??? That doesn't even make sense. Is that what they are saying you would have to do? Glue them onto the factory ones??Though I do prefer the look of these!

I do like the one you found with a smaller lens. But im gonna keep diggin and see what I can find.

And no way am I just gonna glue it on. I would only do full cover replacement. Gotta keep it clean.

I found a set for $118 shipped. the wiring could get tough running the wire down the door to the side marker without opening the door up.

I like the look tho.

Remember, you will also have to run wiring from mirror to mirror signal wire and battery/power wires.!

Why would you want to do this? We already have a side blinker on our front fenders!

It would be a suttle look. You would only need to run 1 signal wire and a ground. This would be an outter shell replacement. NOT whole replacement.

We do have a signal already on the fender but for me its look. I liked it on the 1st gen M. And its getting boring not being able to mod anything on the M!

I'm with you man. I too like the look of a signal on the mirror. The other guy must not know a lot about wiring. This light addition would only require a tap in on a blinker wire and its own ground wire.

ATSELLAB, I guess we have to remember there are older people here who only want to "ride" in their cars as we want to really "drive" ours. It's a difference here I've noticed, but everyone will have their own opinion on the purpose of these cars.

The hell with all of that voiding warranty stuff, it's called the "Magnuson Voss" act. Everyone who thinks mods will void our warranties needs to read about that act!

I bought this mirror from Japan recently and the wiring could be troublesome if you decide to do it yourself. This mirror will require at least 2 hours of labor in a professional shop for installation. However, it fits perfect.

I can't see the fit being perfect at all. I say this because it is a lay over. You are going to see the edge thickness from the mirror side view. I would have to see pictures of all angles of this lay over installed on an M to give an actual true opinion on it. That price is just ridiculous for a lay over piece either way. If it was a complete back shell replacement I would say it was somewhat worthy of that price.

Whoah! thats a chunk of change for a thin plastic shell with a few diodes in it! My mirrors look just fine!

This is exactly what you get in Japan on your M if you order one. You cannot tell they go on overtop, it's a perfect shell, and they come painted to match. If you had to replace the whole housing/motor assembly, etc, this would be a fortune.

Jason,

We want to see more photos of them installed. We need to see the edge of the shell for our selves from the mirror side. Without more pics, I would not even come close to consider them.

Thanks for the effort, but I don't really want to create an account to look at the photos. It doesn't show any photos when I click on link. Only shows a log in screen.

I have these on my car and it was really easy to do.

I would say it was a 4 out of a 10 to do.

I have the ones that are in the pic that he posted and they are urethane injection molded with quality that fit just like OEM. They do replace the OEM covers, they are not stick on covers, and they have no issues.

Here is a pic.

If your looking for mirror install FSM for the Y50 look here: http://www.botechs.com/m35/sm/gw.pdf

Hope this helps!

Also this helps alot with people noticing your car more when trying to merge especially in LA traffic at night cause people here don't pay attention to **** so every little bit helps!

Yours looks awesome, exactly what I invisioned. How was the wiring for you? Did you have to remove door paneling and what not?

Hey ATSELLAB,Can you give a link to that mirror cover with the signal lense? I don't recall you posting the link to it.

Thanks,

Would you have them pre-paint it for you?Wow, I was really thinking these were expensive. The price for them is the cheapest thing I've seen so far for this car! I will definitely be placing them on my to do list!

It was really easy, one thing with our cars is that they aren't that hard to take apart and put back together as long as your careful and take your time.Follow the FSM if all else fails.as far as getting them painted, I would have it done by your own shop, their paint matching isn't the greatest.

I have a shop installed this for me on Thursday. However, they didn't took off the OEM mirror cover. They put the JDM cover on top of it and drill a hole through so that they could run the wires through. The JDM mirror somehow fits perfect on top of the OEM mirror cover, but the problem is that my passenger side power mirror could not fold down smoothly now, it stucks when it reached certain angle. I have to ask them to rework on that on Monday.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Was the JDM cover supposed to mounted as a layover? If so, then that was the only way to mount it and yes a hole would have to be drilled for the wires. It just comes down to the type of product you purchased. Now the problem with the mirror not folding in is something they need to repair. What folds in anyways? The mirror housings themselves (I haven't seen this) or are you talking about the actual mirror adjustment?

I found the complete replacement ones at $115 and only $50 for paint code color match. That's a good deal I think. I just wish the signal lense was smaller.

Yes, just the passanger side mirror couldn't adjust downward smoothly. I guess the shop didn't run the wire clearly or something else.

For anyone that used these covers can you provide pics from different angles? Id like to see exactly how far the light sticks out from the top and front.
