Hello My 90 s13 has about 150,000 miles. It rides nice but is in need of new shocks/struts. The ride was not that bad until I got hit in the back. Now, anytime I try to accelerate on a bumpy street the car make strange noises from the rear and has terrible traction. I want to replace all 4. Can someone suggest a good brand and about how much they cost? I just want a good stock replacement. Also, are they easy to install? I have installed simple shocks on GM cars from the 70's. Do you need any special tools? What would it cost in labor for a shop to install them. I really do not know what is involved. THANKS

KYB makes good shock/struts for the price. if you just want replacement, the KYB GR-2's are said to be just replecements. but i, aswell as many others, have used them for performance. AGX's are adjustables, but cost a lot more. I'm 18 and haven't worked on cars that long, but I installed the GR-2s myself, along w/ new springs, and i installed springs in my friends 90 s13. that invalves taking off the shocks/struts too, and its not that difficult at all. theres only two "special" tools that we used. one was the springs compressor, if you don't have this, it'll be pretty damn hard to get those stock springs off. second we used my famous "getto stick". its just a pole to help gain leverage for those tough bolts that won't budge. its fairly easy, if i can do it, ne 1 can.

If it's GR2's, they would be $178 plus shipping from Tire Rack, a reputable seller.

If that's for AGX's, then I'd be really careful, because that's WAY too cheap. They usually go for almost double that amount, so either they're used, the seller is scamming you, or the seller is incredibly stupid.

You should get new boots if the old ones are torn or dry rotted. For the price, it's worth replacing the old boots, IMO. I also got new KYB upper mounts, but that's not necessary if yours are still in good shape.
