new shifter for my 99 maxima 5 speed...any advice?

Been looking on the web but wanted to hear from anyone who has done it already. I've been thinking about shortening it as well...

In all my travels with my '98 Maxima, I never found a short shifter kit that was made specifically for the A32. I did hear that with some modifications, the one for the Sentra worked but I can't actually say whether it did or not as I never did it.

So if I cannot shorten it, any suggestions on other shifters? I really do not want to get one and wish I would have gotten something else later.
