Hey Gang,

The past couple of times I drove the vert it started with its old shifting problems again - struggling to shift out of first. The boy drove it tonight and same crap. I won't get to see it until next week to diagnose but wanted to throw it out there for the group. Anyone else having shifting problems AFTER they did the rev sensor unplug?

Thanks guys.

I think its time to do that really simple 5 speed swap :chuckle: should only take like 10 minutes. All jokes aside why not get another sensor from the junkyard? I would think you could pull one from an Altima

RJ, I'd love to do the swap, unfortunately I'm stuck in Donkey Balls Colorado and the car is in NC. That IS the ultimate plan however.

biggie, I have not. Oldest son has not shown any interest in cars other than driving my convertible while I'm gone but that's the first thing I'll check when I get back next week. Thanks guys.

Did you unplug that inhibitor switch thing? If not, try that first.

If by inhibitor switch thing you mean what I thought was the rev sensor listed in the "Problems with Transmission" thread started by Old Sarge then yes, I did that five years ago after I first got the car and started having problems. I was thinking of plugging it back in just for kicks. If this is a different fix then please elaborate. I'm hoping it's something simple.

I'll be home Wednesday and plan to get it figured out then.

I was going to say to plug it back in. Maybe it fixed itself haha.... wishful thinking I suppose. Also maybe your trans fluid is really dirty. My dads Frontier had really hard shifts but when I did a flush on it the shifts were noticeably lighter

Did you get this resolved - still trying to find answers for my transmission problem in the online mechanic forum

Not really. It did exhibit the behavior a couple times while I was home driving it but simply turning the ignition off then back on quickly (while driving) resolved the issue. Which leads me to believe it's the old problem.

I poked around and it appeared that the rev sensor was plugged back in (maybe during an oil change) but because the problem was so intermittent I really didn't spend that much time with it. I need to remember which one I unplugged five years ago.

I go back in a couple weeks for 10 days and will revisit the problem then. I'll post my results either way. I hope you get yours resolved. What's it doing?

Well, right now the car is just laid up in the garage, with no change to the situation, while I'm up in Washington.

When you unplugged the sensor did this just allow the car to be driven in 2nd gear only or did it provide the full range of ratios?

Full range of gears. If memory serves me I think the 240 used 2 sensors to tell it when to change gears. The rev sensor is the one that got wonked up usually and unplugging it allowed it to fall back on the other - speedo maybe.

Anyhow, after i unplugged it 5 years ago I haven't had a bit of trouble so I'm thinking it just got plugged back in.
