Yeah, the 240 has cancer pretty bad. the whole front end of the frame has rotted out. Somone tried to "patch" it before by bolting a 1/4 inch piece of steel to the bottom of what was left of the frame rail...

I'd have to get a whole new front clip to fix it.

So along comes this virtually rust free shell, which is in another state and pretty much free of charge. To tell the truth, a good friend of mine found it for me, and is going to go pick it up, take a few parts he needs for his equally yellow 280, and then hand the shell over to me. I figure I'm going to transfer over all the parts I can to that, and make it a street/highway car. And then I'll take the 240, store it away untill the 280 is done, and then eventually cut the front end off 240 and make the front into a tubular chassis and turn it into a track only car.

...why can't it stay yellow

It's thoroughly yellow though, I can't see someone respraying that thoroughly... IIRC you couldn't get them in yellow factory by 77, except maybe some special edition with all sorts of stripes or something...

Still, 280s rule :D

good point, you might be right, that does look like a factory paint job, who paints the inside of the firewall, I'd guess that is a real "ZAP" edition, just a paint a graphic's package but might be worth preserving

That is a factory color.

*Update*

The car is now safely in my shop

I found a few MINOR rust spots that should take virtually nothing to fix.

The car is stripped down to nothing, all the parts are in boxes. My First step is to scrape off all the road grime, undercoating, and all the interior noise/heat reducing tar. Fix the small rust spots, fix the dent in the door, and then paint it.

I do not have a camera ATM, my old digital camera no longer works, and I probably wont be able to get one until the beginning of November. So no new pictures....

I DO however, have my scanner. So I'll show yall all of the paperwork I got with the car. (there's a lot)

yup, looks like you got a Zap edition, the paint code 411 was for sunburts yellow which was the zap color, no other yellows were offered on the 280'shttp://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html

hmmm... interesting.

The car still has the original paint, no sections have been repainted that i can find. There is no indication that the car ever had the Zap stripes though.

very interesting

*EDIT* According to some info I dug up, there were 77's offered in Sunburst Yellow, that were NOT the Zap, but I'm still trying to verify that.

The Zappp looks great. Do that

Hmm, maybe I can hold out hope for yellow having been offered in 75 too (I sometimes really, really want to paint mine that).

But orange more.
