Drove down to Laredo this last Sunday (got back at 4am) to pick up this sexy beast, an 89' 240sx pignose 5 spd hatch. bf kicked me out of his Miata since its getting new coilovers so this in my new daily driver.

Pros:-it has an engine-5 spd-interior is nice-speakers and head unit work-windows roll down, mostly-its a 240 hatch, it will get sideways

Cons-brakes...what are those?-one head light should be enough-the sliding seatbelt works, but thats all you get-80s wheels with gumbi tires...sidewall flex/mush FTL-offroading suspension enyone?-two tone, but not the right kind-looks like someone went at it with a hammer or bat-SOHC KA24e for. the. lose. My dohc KA in that was in the black 240 had more power when it was running on 3 cylinders, seriously. -can't park on a hill, e-bake no worky.-massive crack in the windshield right in my vision-How many spoilers did it have?

Plans-using my chuki's black bumper to replace piggy front-sand, grind, beat, pull, weld, bondo the fenders, hatch, doors, etc to make it straight-paint, some kind of paint to make it one color-of course fix the mushy brakes, add a lower seatbelt anchor, clean, etc-put an intake/cone filter on it since I have tons laying around

pros -nismo seatsno ABSno AC ??? [oops, I think I see an AC line in there... bummer]

cons -rear wiperpower windowssun roofcruise controlAC

Not sure of the availability of nice 240's in your area but I'm not sure I'd pay that much for that car... However, I bet it'll be damn nice once you've fixed a few things.

Don't you need chuki fenders also if you plan on rocking a chuki bumper ???

wow, you should have checked dallas craigslist theres 240's in way better condition than that for 1000-1500. good luck though, no turning back! lol

and all she needs are the fender extensions. the chuki fenders just have a hole in them.

haha, yeah, I make it look and sounds worse than it is. Its actually a good little car under the crappy body. IMO its easier to fix a beat up body than a crap interior. It does have a new clutch, extra diff I'll be welding, bunch of extra parts I can sell, etc. And at the time there were no better cars on Craigslist in Dallas, Houston, or Austin. I almost picked up a coupe for $800 a month or two ago, but it sold out from under me and I don't like coupes anyway.

As for the AC/rear wiper - I need that crap and am glad its there. I live in Texas, its hot as hell! I have my RB25 drift S13 to play with so this baby is just getting cleaned up and daily driven. Then I might sell it and make some $ on it, or long time in the future drop a SR in it.

Gotta get my RB car out of the garage so I can get to work on this thing, stay tuned for updates!

I'm wide-fendering my black hatch so I can also use it's fenders and chuki bumper as well if you can't use the chuki w/piggy fenders

brakes-Try the J30 brakes for a quik and easy upgrade from S13 OEM, just refinished and installed mine and I couldnt be happier for less than $100 (junkyard cailpers+rotors re-drilled by me and 2 seal rebuild kits) and I got the write up from Nico! junkyard stuff is worth it if you can find it.

so the latest update on this is....wait for it...I'm finally able to drive it on the road! We also took it to and from Houston for Thanksgiving with.....2 people, 1 grandmother for a portion of the trip, one lizard and terrarium, one hedgehog w/ travel cage, 2 pistols and ammo, two bags of clothing, a ps2, pet food/litter/lights/stuff, two backpacks, grandmothers suitcase for a portion, some boards to prop up the hatch, a jack, donut, tools (ended up needing those when the wheel wanted to fall off when the ****ty lugs started to loosen), tripod, video camera in big case, photo camera/2 lenses in large pack, laptop, and a MSD rev limiter, hand saw, multiple bags of food on the way back. I love hatches!!!!!

Cleaned the engine bay and it started to run on 2 cylinders, damn. Cleaned injector connections and that didn't work replaced the spark plugs that the previous owner was supposed to have done and it runs on all 4 again. Still rough idle, but definitely runs better and has more power. Seafoamed it too, lots of smoke. New windshield wipers! Big exhaust leak from exhaust manifold missing bolts. Unplugged passenger side motor so the light just stays up, but it works. I think it might have vac leak(s) and not be timed well, tends to backfire when cold and sometimes when warm.

Currently driving on drift tires/rims. Better than the old stockers. Brake rotors not as bad as I thought, probably has air in the system. Steam cleaned it and its much better inside now, very clean. Still smells a bit like 90wt though from when the extra diff was in the hatch.

The seatbelt broke (sliding one) on the drivers side so I put the one from my black hatch into it and turned it off so it stays back. Took the anchor from the S14 seat in my black hatch for the drivers side. Passenger is still w/o one.

Also got the original blue front end to this car...which is on a different car...which is another story entirely

okay! Old thread bump ftw!

After my turbo blew on my RB car I laid low for a while and went to work on Patches (yes, thats what I named it). In the last few months I solved many of the previous problems...

- found out what the brake problem was; replaced leaky caliper- replaced faulty passenger side pop-up motor- replaced drivers side sliding seatbelt and added anchors- replaced wheels/tires- Retimed the engine, runs much better- found it had a fuel leak from the lines at the gas tank, replaced those with fresh lines- replaced clutch master- found out mechanical ebrake was unhooked and fixed- replaced duuuuuurrr front end with a chuki front end, then traded that front end to my BF and got his nice piggy front- sold fake nismo seats-replaced battered rear fender with new one-fixed most other dents on the car-starting to paint it; its going black!

Masked

Massaging dents

Working on the hatch, in the background my bf cuts off the donor fender

Old cracked lines

New undented rear fender! And beginning to be primered

The car doesn't seem in that bad of shape. At least the engine bay is clean. Rust anywhere else? Oh and the blue interior is hot! lol

I'll probably sell this one once its all painted. Yes, we should be out there, but not driffin, no monies this month after ordering parts for the rb car.
MastaYu wrote:definately got your work cut out
fortunately most of that work has already been done
urcaptnspeaking wrote:do you have pictures of the quarter replacing process..
Some, but I was working on something else while my BF was working on that so I didn't get too many photos. Pretty much we pulled the smaller dents, got a donor fender, cut it off, fit and welded up a new fender, ground off excess welds, then I used body filler to sculpt it back to shape.
