So Nissan introduced today or yesterday I don't really know or care the new Sentra SR Turbo. Utilizing the 1.6L turbo four from the stunningly designed Nissan Juke. Now, this engine's been in the Juke since what now 2013? This is something Nissan should've done to the Sentra years ago, heck I would've bought one. I'm sensing Nissan is feeling the pressure from the upcoming 1.5L turbo Civic, otherwise why come out with this thing now? Weird thing is, Nissan will keep selling the N/A SR alongside the turbo SR. The N/A SR already starts around $21k or $22k, so how much will they be up charging for the turbo? Who knows? If they push into the mid $20k range they'll be competing against Scion FRS, Focus ST, and Subaru WRX territory which are all better cars. Even in the low $20k range how is this better than a Fiesta ST? In other news, this Sentra turbo marks the official death of the IDX so there's that. Good on Nissan though, they didn't have to do this knowing that not many people will buy them when the competition is very stiff. It'll be fun seeing them in the wild once in a while in a few years.

Discuss or don't it's cool. Still think it's a cool car, just rather have a FiST.

Nissan, once again, plays it too goddamn safe.

The one thing I can applaud them with is the fact they're offering a manual transmission with it. That's a very awesome plus, but this thing was nothing more than raiding the Juke's parts bin and spinning it as "new and innovative".

The 7th gen Sentra has been woefully underpowered from the start, and I think that it was due to Nissan's fear of it cannibalizing Altima sales. The Altima is nosediving because crossovers are taking over the world, but for some reason, the Sentra looks poised to overtake the Altima in sales and subcompacts are on the rise, so offering it with more power than a base Altima now makes sense. I personally think that's due to pricing. The midsize sedan market is rapidly shrinking and the fat is getting trimmed.

Now, my point is, why not take the Juke Nismo's powertrain, throw a Nismo front bumper and wheels on it and some stitching on the seats and go there with it? Why not? 200+ hp and you have a compelling argument not only for a fun little sedan, but a fun little sedan that rolls with the Fiesta STs of the world. Instead, we get an also-ran that won't touch a WRX, a Civic Si, or a Focus ST where it belongs.

I miss the days of the SE-Rs.

I don't really follow the Juke so didn't even know there was a Juke Nismo but your idea is brilliant. Definitely would've been a car on my radar. I own a 2015 Sentra S with the 6 speed manual, I wonder if they'll be using the same transmission on this SR Turbo. Hopefully they fit it with a short shift kit or something. My Sentra's shifter is not bad but not what I would consider sporty.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly the setup that's on the Juke with some massaging to the transmission's gearing to optimize the power curve - I need to drive one to make sure. That's a lot more torque that is expected of the Sentra's base unit, and I don't think they'd risk a failure point there especially when the Juke's transmission is ready to go off the shelf and it's already spec'd for that power.

"Stunning?" As in stop in one's tracks and vomit?? :chuckle: Although it's shaped like an egg, I find it easier on the eyes than a Puke...er..I mean... Juke. I'm pleasantly surprised Nissan's actually offering a man pedal option on a non-base model, which is hopefully a turn in the right direction. I'm willing to keep an open mind until I drive one.

Sarcasm font not working

I'm also willing to give it a shot until I drive it, it seems like it'll be a fun car on paper. I'm more worried about pricing, if it ain't priced right it won't sell. This thing shouldn't have an MSRP of more than $21k imo.

Limp chassis.
You could drop an LS1 in there and it would still be underwhelming.

THIS. My Speed3 with 263 hp was around $25K. Worth it for my car? Absolutely. a Sentra with less hp? Probably not. I am anxious to drive one though. I am glad that at least they are offering a manual. I've already hit up our local Nissan dealer. He's supposed to let me know as soon as one arrives so I can take one for a test drive. :shifter:

If you have the time, definitely write up a short review on it. It'd be nice to get the opinion from someone who owns a Speed3, which if the Speed3 was still being built would be competition for the SR Turbo... kinda... maybe not. The Speed3 was a great car.

I have had days recently where I missed my Speed3 quite a bit. Fantastically versatile car. I think if I had cracked the mod bug with it I might still have it.

I still lust after first gen Speed3s when I see them on the road, the more stock looking the better. That's a car I would've kept for years if I would've bought one. I wonder why Mazda stopped making them. The new 3 hatch's design is very sexy, would've made a great Speed3.

I was thinking the same thing(s).
Supposedly and SE-R is coming out as well.
