Hello. Looking to purchase a new G37 X in Black (with stone gray interior) and wondering if anyone has any opinions on the new clear coat that is supposed to heal itself if it gets scratched.

I have a white 2004 G35 coupe that I'm trading in. I felt that was a bit hard to keep clean also. Wondering if I'm going to HATE the black. ?? I plan on keeping it for about 3 years.

Any opinions appreciated!!! Thanks!

It is not a mirracle. It heals some tiny scratches as I can see from posts but that's all about it.

Black. Well I had one black G and I loved it. Of course it only stays clean for .0002 nano seconds. Before you actually leave the garage it will have some dust on it already. Still think the black is the sexiest one. You have to be really carefull with the was and dry process. You can get swirlls on it really easy. As long as you know how to clean it and don't let your dealer wash it you should be fine. White doesn't show swirls as bad as black or red.

Black is pure sex tho

Thank you for your reply. I agree, the black really looks sweet! I only do the touchless car washes in a pinch but, otherwise do it myself. I'll have to read some more threads on washing/polishing to really be careful.

I have a detailer who I can definitely trust also. I use him once or twice a year as well.

I've never owned black and think this would be the black car to have!!

If you think White is hard to keep clean, Black is going to drive you crazy.

I like black cars, but don't mind going away from them either. I've owned 3 black cars out of the 7 I've ever owned. But out of my current 3 none are black. I'm glad, cause I don't want to wash them every 2 days.

QFT

Wow...white is a blessing compared to black!!

Also, when you wash and detail a black car...you REALLY have to do it a certain way or it's going to look like crud.

CA residents have everything backwards huh?

Summer here in a black car is almost unbearable.

I love my black car ... but it's the last black I'll own. I have the self healing paint on the 37x ... but don't expect it to work wonders = doesn't really work.

+1 to everything said here...

Black is sexy but hard to maintain. White is very easy compared to black. Good luck! Its a love/hate relationship.

California legislation just sux. Winter sux if you get snow because of the salt/dirt on the roads. Black in Phoenix is the worst though...1023402098 degrees.

Well, gonna give the black a try! I think they look sweet and have always wanted a black car. I seem to only keep my cars a couple/few years so, maybe I'll change my mind at that point!

Picking it up tomorrow at 10:00 am!!! (won't get much sleep tonight!!)

Black is the best... The blue is just as bad as the black... If you want easy get silver or the grey or white.

Last I read, the law they wanted to pass for that is on hold. Perhaps dead. The better solution is to reduce light transmission through auto glass outside of the visible range from an effectiveness standpoint. But according to an editorial in Car and Driver (JULY 2009), it could be relatively expensive. And this is currently in some stage of the legislative process...
