Well said Wes.
Same theory as a clutch plate in a manual transmission.
not rocket science at all.
But my OEM pads go 60K on my Stillen Brembos. The OEM rotors are aluminum pie plates in comparison. When one reads Q45tech's early maintenance postings, he is always turning and replacing the OEM rotors until he switches rotors to after market.

Thanks, guys! Although I don't usually brake hard, when I have done it, I've never thought to put it in N and release the brake in order to minimize excessive heat and possible warping on that area of the rotor. Makes sense. I've now found myself thinking about this nearly every time I brake.

Not sure what pads were on there, but I try to get OEM. The rotors were 2mm below min tolerance, and I assume they were probably original. I don't see any records of the previous owner having replaced them and I bought the car around 150k.

Good stuff...Thanks again!

94-96 Q45 have wood.

97-2000 do not except for the ae which has the maple continued on all 2001. I prefer the plastic as I find the maple too yellow.

Im going to go with the j30 rears, im going through brakes every 3-5 months. And I tend to kill the rears due to drak racing and autocross/gymkhana/drift One question, do the caliper pistons share the same volume compairing the g50 to j30... I dont want to deal with perportioning valves to make up for the different volume.

yeah the J30 rears are basically the same caliper, just double thickness and vented... Never really understood why the lighter J30 got the better rear brakes compared to the Q?

Since the J30 came out (1992) they had keyless entry. The 1992-1993 Q45 had the same door lock timer as the J30 but never got the alpine made remote keyless entry system.

The don't want only one model to have all the features!
