Hello everyone, My name is Matt and I just registered on this site. I've had my new 2012 Nissan Rogue SL AWD since January 4th of this year. I am not new to forums however, and I am coming from a 2006 Honda Accord EXL V6 sedan that I traded in for the Rogue. I will make an introduction thread soon, but I have a question about my Rogue...

I currently have 690 miles on my Rogue and I have had a great experience with it thus far, however, yesterday when I pulled out of my garage and started accelerating I noticed a "click" sound coming from my driver's side footwell area whenever I pressed the gas from a stop. When I hit the gas from a stop there is a "click" sound that actually sounds almost identical to the sound that is made when you press a button on the navi screen. I initially thought I had something in the door pocket, but there was nothing there... Then I thought it was coming from my driver's door speaker since the sound seemed so similar to the clicking sound from the nav buttons... However, I did some trouble shooting today and opened my driver's side door and drove a short distance and found that with the door opened, the "click" sound is just as loud as when the door is closed. So it is actually coming from under my dash on the driver's side.

Also, upon deceleration, there is a "clunky" type of "click" that occurs from the same area as well. Overall, It almost sounds like my issue could be a relay or solenoid. I have found that there is a fuse panel under the dash on the driver's side, and I am thinking that one of the relays in that fuse panel may be "clicking" when I hit the gas, and "clacking" when I hit the brake somehow... I am not sure what relay or solenoid would be triggered by these actions, but it definitely seems like an electric issue and is not mechanical.

I brought the car by Nissan today and they told me to bring it in first thing Monday morning and they will get down to the bottom of it, but I want to go there with some sort of direction to go in, rather than have them tear things apart looking for a problem....

Does anyone know what it sounds like it could be?

Thank you very much!

Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah its a weird occurence... From a stop, all but extremely light throttle input causes the click to occur... However, moderate throttle input and the click is slightly low in volume, and if I give it a little heavier throttle, it sounds a little louder... It is not only from a stop though. While at speed, if I give it 1/3 throttle or more, you can hear the click also...

When I am slowing to a stop and I'm almost stopped, there is the "clunk" click sound that seems like its coming from around the pedals... But it is consistent in that throttle produces the "click" and brake produces the "clunky" click.

That is what makes me think it may be a relay or solenoid of some sort... It is not coming from the door speaker so I've ruled that out, its not the door locks, etc... I've narrowed it to the footwell area, and the only thing that I can think of in that area that can make an audible electrical "click" sound would be a relay or something... It literally sounds almost identical to the click sound that pressing a button on the touch screen makes.

I know I probably came off as impatient. I am not normally impatient, it is just that I am bringing my car to Nissan tomorrow morning at 0900 so tonight is basically my last shot at anyone reading this and responding. So I just figured it wouldn't hurt to keep the thread as close to the top as possible...

However, I am also used to forums that are inhabited by many more people and are much more active, such as V6performance.net, DriveAccord.net and Hidplanet.com, etc.... If I posted this on V6P this thread would have had 3 pages already lol... I guess I also have to get used to the fact that the Rogue does not have as much of a following on the forums....

Thank you for your advice all the same. :bigthumb:

Hi there, I would definately agree with your conclusion from the lack of responses: this is not a common issue, very rare. This forum gets good traffic, if you post up a question about a well-known issue or common question you're almost gauranteed to get a response within a day and usually much quicker. But I think in this case you just have an abnormal, uncommon issue, and I hope your dealer gets it corrected for you in a hurry and you're back to happy motoring!

And BTW, welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the welcome!!!

Well everyone, I am happy and embarrassed to say that the problem with my car was all in my head.... Well, not really...

Here's the scoop:
This morning while driving to Nissan, I used my stethoscope to listen to the driver's door, driver's side under dash, B-pillar, and driver's seat... I came to the conclusion that the click was coming from the driver's seat....

So I took the car to Nissan, and the service guy took a ride with me, and heard both sounds that I was describing. He told me that they are very weird and he has never heard anything like that before... So in my head I'm thinking, "Of course, so because they do not know what can be causing it, they're going to take my seat apart and scratch up my trim pieces, or not put something back properly, etc.", and I just braced myself for being at the dealer for a few hours....

So I started talking to the sales guy that helped me when I bought the car, and he went out to the car to grab something out of it for me... He came back in about 5 minutes later and said, "Your car's done". I said, "Huh?"... And he giggled and said, "You wanna know what the problem was? Please ask me what the problem was."... So I asked, "What was the problem?"

He then pulled this out of his pocket and asked me, "Does this belong to you?": Image

We both laughed and I felt like a fool, but I was very relieved that there was no actual problem with the car itself... Apparently the flashlight got stuck in such a tight place under the seat that even with me hitting bumps and taking turns at various speeds during my commute, it never budged... Just kept tapping against the seat rail I assume.... I swear it sounded almost exactly like the same "click" that the navi screen makes when you touch it. :gotme

So go on, laugh at me.... I know I sure did... I'm just glad that my car is A-OK!!!!! :inoutgay:

I don't know very much about flashlights, but from the pictures I just saw on google, I can say Its a no-name Nebo style light. I bought it for $7 and it does pretty well for what I spent. I have a 12" LED mag-lite knockoff as well that stays in the car... I don't use the latter on the job. I do plan on getting a couple of nice, good quality lights in the near future, as well as upgrading some of my other equipment. Now that you've mentioned Streamlights, I'm going to look into them!

One of my partners has a nice tactical ~11" multi-LED heavy duty light that he calls his "EDP stick"... It is very bright and has a couple of modes... In one of the modes, the light flashes rapidly to temporarily blind an attacker which I think is cool.

Thanks alot! I think it was pretty comical so I had no problem posting it up in here so everybody can laugh like I did...

Initially though I was pretty nervous and I am very relieved that nothing is wrong as well. Tomorrow is my birthday and I am taking the confirmation that I have a trouble free car as a gift.

No its a different light. I'll see if I can find a picture of a similar light. I will watch those videos later... I teaching a CPR class right now, but when I get home I will watch those vids...

I will say though that I have a knife that is almost identical to the one that I see in the still of that last video... It is spring loaded and has a "window punch" nub, seatbelt cutter, and an LED penlight...

I like that Smith & Wesson knife... I want something like that! No the knife that I have is actually identical to that Uzi knife but with an LED penlight on it... The "window punch" nub on my knife is not spring loaded, the blade is springloaded... The "window punch" nub on my knife is just the pointed tip like the Uzi one has. I'm sure the quality of mine is not as good as the Uzi one... It cost me $14 shipped on Ebay... I soon will be getting a better knife too. Are you in PD?

Nice...

I've definitely gotta see what Streamlight and Smith and Wessen have to offer. You've got me interested now after seeing those videos!

Lol.... I meant "Member Of Service"...

I am not a FDNY employee, I work for a hospital. I am however an EMS MOS in the FDNY 911 system, its just a different name on my check... But yes, even our ambulances have those, so I'd imagine FDNY would have something similar... Nice and bright they are.
