New rims on the EX35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I just transfer my old sensor to new rim. There is no need to buy a new one.

If you have no money, then why would you buy new rims? Did you damage the original ones? (facetious question)

It`s a bit hard to find an aftermarket rims that will fit the stock infiniti tpms . If you`ll only use the new rims on summer time and have a winter rims this complicate the situation. Even if you buy the tpms for the aftermarket rims, you`ll have to send it to the stealership to reprogram it.($50-$60?) and when you decide to switch to winter wheels this need to reprogram it again. The best way is to find an aftermarket rims that will fit that stock tpms and have a good tire shop to install it. My tire shop told me that he could just remove that tpms sensor from one rim to another without dismounting the tire, just deflate it. Or another option is have the tpms in your winter tires (since winter is more dangerous to have a flat tire than summer time) this way even if it`s below freezing, you have an early warning system. jUST MY .2 CENTS

Do you really need to reprogram the sensors every time you change your winter/summer wheels? In my old car that had TPMS, I just let the TPMS light stay on when I switched to my winter tires/wheels and checked my air pressure the old fashioned way.

I am with you. When compared to the reprogramming fees the warning light isn't a big deal.

With my C6 I could reprogram the sensors using a $100 tool; GM does get somethings right once in a while.

With planning on installing rims/tires on my EX, it almost seems easier to just keep the TPMS in my 17" OEM and use those in the winter. My question is, will the vehicle automatically find the TPMS when I re-install the original rims/tires in the winter?

Mine always did. As soon as my OEM rims/tires were back on, the light went out. Now that was a Mazda3, so I don't know if the Infinitis are different.

yeah i want to know that as well

the TPMs is a pain in the butt. my original plan was to get a new set of rims + tires but since its alot of trouble i think i shud just get new rims only and get my mechanic to remove the old tires and TPMs then transfer them both on the new rims. is that a good idea?

my only concern about that is i dont know whether the original TPMs can fit and work with the new rims. i dunno if it matters but the new rims i am planning to get is RTX Arsenic

actually i think it will find the TPMs because i recently took out the front wheels to put in HIDs and i put back the old wheels and nothing was wrong.

by the way is there a way to disable the TMPS i mean the warning light

I would leave the sensors on the wheels you put the most miles on. My light went out when I put back on the stock wheels with the sensors.

The sensors are battery powered transmitters that send pressure info to the control module. Each sensor has a unique ID that is registered with the control module. The sensors reduce power after setting stationary for an extended period of time. They power up when the wheels rotate. So anytime you stick on the wheels with sensors that are registered with the control unit, the warning light will go out after you drive the car. Battery life span for a sensor is about 4-5 years if I remember correctly. My drill down is based upon my experience with a C6 but I think most tire pressure monitoring systems work in a similar manner.

The Nissan techs that follows this board may be able to add more about how the system works.

With the C6 the sensors were tied into the active handling system and would limit max torque and top speed if one of the run crap/flat tires loses pressure. Sort of makes sense in a car that can exceed 180 MPH. Once you get above 140 acceleration starts to level off so I never felt compelled to see 180 on the heads up display.

It won`t reset the TPMS automatically when you put the original rims/tires

back once your tech reprogrammed the new tpms sensor with the new

rims on the cars module- it deletes the old tpms frequency. This is what

my service advisor told me. But it will reset your TPMS light if you never

touch or reprogram the original tpms after removing the new tire/rims

without the TPMS. When I told my Infiniti service advisor that I will just

use a rim/tire without the TPMS, he said just bring the car back and he`ll

reset the warning light when I install the original rims back with the tpms

in it.

He`ll reset the light for free! I guess he was BS__ting me... LOL!

Best way to do it is get a small piece of black tape and cover the warning

light. Seriously Why pay for an extra TPMS or tire removal fee?

Maybe pulling the fuse? Not sure what else that would be connected to.

the only problem i have with the tape is that it looks bad lol. oh and if u pull the fuse im almost certain u will affect something else in the car. erh i hate the stupid TMPs makes things so complicated. i liek the sound of having infiniti reset it for free. does that mean they disable the TMPS in the car?

anther question i have is: can the original TMPS fit on all aftermarket rims?

and i guess its not that annoying right? just a little light in the corner? no beeps nothing shows on the center screen?

When I put the stock wheels back on (with the registered sensors) the light went out after driving 1/2 block so I didn't need the dealer to do anything.

I found the dash warning light to be easy to ignore.

You will also get a warning via the driver info LCD screen when you start the car. I don't remember if this happens every time you start the car. You can push the enter key and it goes away.

The only good thing about the EX TPMS system is Nissan didn't combined it with run crap/flat tires.

I had my snows on for 3 months and it wasn't a big deal to me but your mileage may vary.
