It overheated so fast that I never saw the temp needle move. I towed it to my friends shop and she’s been there since. We thought this would be a perfect opportunity for a 5 speed swap, since we had to pull the motor anyway. The rings were shot. The head gasket wasn’t blown, I had a cometic three layer on it. I have always run royal purple oil. The motor got so hot that the spark plug wires were melted in the head. The valve cover blistered my finger when I pulled the oil cap off. So I bought all the necessary parts for the rebuild, and for the 5 speed conversion. We Replaced upper and lower timing chain. Tried to replace everything we could with new parts. I took the head to a local machine shop and they resurfaced the head, taking off .015. We removed the clutch fan and added electric fans. Over all I have been happy with the way things have been going. Everything is done and put back together. Looks good, nice and neat, and clean
The problem is, it wont start. We have been working on the no start issue for 2 days now. We cannot figure it out. We have spark, fuel and compression. Timing has been checked, rechecked and double checked. There is only 1 code coming up, P1605 which relates to the auto transmission. We have tried three different distributers thinking maybe the cam angle sensor isn’t functioning properly. Tried 3 crank angle sensors and I’m sure they have tried multiple other things. We have access to quit a few parts for troubleshooting. My distributor has a new cap and rotor that I replaced about 3k miles ago. Its very strange. The spark seems really weak, it’s orange in color and does not seem consistent at all. Not sure what to try next. Please, if you read this and can think of something let me know. Any ideas would be appreciated.
