Hi, gonna be changing my brakes soon, and I have read that the axle nut needs to be staked. I didn't see a groove in the axle shaft though, but I wasn't looking either. Can I reuse the old nut, or must I buy new?

I found part number 43262-1HA1A for the rear axle nut. I believe this nut should be replaced when the drum has been removed. Not needing staking, but it is a one time nylon insert similar type lock nut. But I'd bet nobody replaces it when doing the brakes. $28.75 for two nuts shipped. Nissan wants $30 each. This nut is an important fastener that keeps your rear wheel attached to your car. Torques out at 277'#.

Rock Auto does not sell it, but they do have one for the front spindel. I'm guessing at this point that the front nut should be replaced if removed. Fortunately, the front nut does not need removing to replace the pads. Advance Auto shows a stakable nut for the rear axle from Beck-Arnley. I called B-A and their technician said they don't even make a rear axle nut for the Versa. Staking a nut is old-fashioned, but cheap. Works good. Has a stakable nut on the front of an '85 Vanagon. Those were low/ old tech to the max.
