Hello All,

I just picked up my 99 QX4 the other day and couldn't be happier. Although I have some questions on it. It has after market rims on it that I just absolutely hate so on my drive home from buying it (Dallas-Chicago) I stopped at a junk yard and picked up 4 stock wheels from a 1997 QX4. I wanted to know what tire size I should use on the stock rims because I thought all the QXs had the same size tires, but I saw in the glove box that the stock tire size for my vehicle was 255 65 16. Every website I look at though says all first gen QXs have 245 70 16.

Can I use the 255 65 16 tires on my 97 wheels?

My next question is on the built in cell phone that came with the truck from the factory. I was wondering where it was located because I want to see if there is anyway I could plug my current cell phone into the car to use the steering wheel controls and sound system for speaker phone.

Finally my last question for now is I see a ton of QX4s in Chicagoland with rusted out supports for the running boards. Because I bought mine out of Texas the entire thing is rust free. Is there anything I can put on my running boards to keep them from rusting out in Chicago's brutal winters?

Thanks

welcome to nico! as for the 'built in cell phone" you speak of.....i think you mean the infiniti communicator? i saw it in the manual but i thought (for the vehicles equipped with it) the controls were on the roof near the temperature/compass? and steering wheel controls?? i didnt know there were 99's with that! mine just has cruise control. I figured mine was top of the like i got a 99.5 and ive seen a few without heated seat switches even.

as for the running boards....i figured mine were fine until i stepped on my drivers side one to wipe down my sunroof the other day and felt it start to bend down!!! so im not touching it now. as for rust prevention on them, im guessing a good oil spray would protect them.

post up some pics of your ride for us!

My running boards were practicly rusted all the way through so I just took em off and junked em. I'm thinkin about rhino lining the entire bottom of my truck when I get new suspension. You could try that?

If the door says 255/65-16, then that is what you should be using if they will fit your rims, which they should with no problem. I don't know why the inturnet is telling you to go with the 245's. My manual, door stickers, and glovebox sticker all say 255/65 on my 99. I think it's pretty clear what tire Infiniti wanted me to use.

FWIW, the difference in size between a 245/70 and 255/65 is pretty small. At 60mph, your speedometer will only be off by 1mph with the 245's.
