I was having my tires rotated this morning at the dealer. As always, I stroll through the showroom, grab a free tea from the lounge, and then wander outside tto check the new cars. There was only one Q70 model out there - a Q70s black on black with all the packages - billing out at $65,843. While I was snooping around the lot I saw a group of suit & tie peeps and two security guards over in the far corner, removed from the new car lot. I was curious so I moved to get a closer look. Two gentlemen were folding a car cover they had just removed. It was too far away to see clearly, but it was a deep blue coloured car and appeard to be too large for a Q50. When next I looked, there was only one gentleman and the two guards. When they looked in my direction I made sure he saw me looking at the car next to me instead of them. Next he walked inside while talking to the two guards. After what I felt was a safe time had passed, I went closer. Low & Behold it was a brand new Q70-L!
In person, it looked fabulous ... extending the car, it lost most of the wavy bodystyle aside from the wheel openings. It looked absolutely stunning - sporty but with a luuxry look about it. Loads of leg room in theb rear, etc. Up close, It looked nothing like the vids I had seen. The front end looked agressive and it had the combo fog lamp / DRL in the corners. It had one of those colour-matched tags on the rear - like you see at the car shows.
I reached for my mobile, and started filming. I had not even made one full pass around the car when the two security guards ran over to me and told me I cannot be in this area, asking me what I was doing. I kept filming and told them I was waiting on my car being serviced. One of them actually placed is hand in front of my phone and demanded I stop filming. They were quite upset. I told them to contact Brian in the service dept which they did. Moments later a suited gentleman arrived, telling me this area is not for customers and asking me how I knew this car was here. I was getting a little nervy now but still I certainly coudn't have broken any laws? Brian came out the building and vouched for me. He told them he would walk me back to the lounge so I can wait for my car there.
I was like What's the issue? Everyone knows about the L model and it's certainly not an NSA secret! He explained this was on loan to the dealer for 72 hours, a sort of touring model sent to dealers to allow sales peeps to drive and get familiar with it before the first allotment arrives. He told me they feared I was with the media or a blogger and I was going to report it, causing massive amounts of curious peeps to flood the lot. I was like, Brian - it's just an Infiniti car, it's not the 8th wonder of the world, is it?
Anyway, after promising that I was NOT media, or a blogger and the video was just for me, I decided when I got home, I would share 'my vid' with others, LOL. I used my own account that doesn't contain my actual surname - just in case.

so ................... here it is! My brush with danger and the new Infiniti Q70L in a new colour only available on the L model!

If they're going to treat you like a criminal for being interested in looking at a product they eventually want to sell you- I would tell them "no thanks, I'm going over to Lexus".
PS. have you seen the Lexus RC? http://www.lexus.com/concept/RCF/index.html

To their credit, once Brian vouched for me, everything went down a couple notches aside from the 'teenaged' security guards and we all know why. Still, it was completely inappropriate for ANY of them to act as they did. Mind you, my hands never came within touching distance of the vehicle and these peeps are going to drive it, open everything, and poke all over it inside and out, so what would it matter if I had touched it?
And yes, I've looked at the Lexus R models. That front grille is so over-the-top silly that it puts me right off. The rest of the car is fabulous though.

Maybe keeping it "secret" will drum up more fervor for the new stretched model.

I agree with you Larz, it doesn't look as fabricated like the pics seem to demonstrate - perhaps those models were still works in progress.

I like the lines of this model, but how much heavier is it compared to an non "L" model?
I don't think they're changing the engine or transmission much for the Q70 and the drive by wire has been panned by most automotive magazines as having no real steering feel.
