So, a couple months ago, my 240sx hatch crapped out on me, and instead of fixing it for the millionth time, I decided to get rid of it. sold it non running for 1k. Well, yesterday I picked up a 1990 q45 for 850$. Runs beautifully. Pulls like hell on the freeway, and that's just not something I'm used to. Body is straight with only a couple tiny dings in it, paints pretty good. It is missing one of the bbs wheels though. But, for 850, it does have some issues. The steering has some play in it, and I believe it's the steering rack bushings from the research I've done. The rear windows don't roll down, there's a brake line leak somewhere, and the cpu readout says inoperable tailight and brake pads are worn. But the BIGGEST issue that I have with it, is the hvac readouts not working, and I'm not too sure if the system's even working. The guy I bought it from did say it needs to be recharged, which isnt a big deal to me.Does anyone know what the hvac issue might be? I'm troubleshooting it to no avail so far.The q truly is an awesome car!

welcome to NICO!

Youre right on the steering issue, its most likely the rack bushings, pretty easy fx...

You need to fix that brake line leak SOON, or verify that its leaking at the master cylinder which is a bit more common...

with the HVAC, the control unit probably works fine but the display is just out...I would just send it to jerry tucker for $100 and not worry about it again.. buying a used one is like a crap shoot..

Yea, I need to replace the brake pads, and replace the brake lines while I'm at it this week.

So, from what I read, the HVAC controls usually work when the display gives out. My Q's system doesnt seem to be working. None of the buttons light up, no air get blown in or anything. This morning when I first started the car, the display was working, but after probably not even a minute, it went out. Is there some sort of fuse that would prevent the ac/heater and fans from working?

it could be the unit is bad, i have heard of it but its definitely not as common...

Change the temp setting and see if you can hear some things moving around behind the dash.. My guess is maybe the fan is just bad?

So, my HVAC doesnt seem to be working at all. No noises at all when I try to adjust the temp settings. That and neither the front nor rear defrosters are working. Anything I should try before I fork out a bunch to replace the unit? And I checked the brake master cylinder and it is leaking a bunch. Went outside this morning, found quite a puddle of brake fluid under the car. Should I just get a rebuild kit for it, or would it just be better to get a new bmc? I really dont want to be spending alot of cash if I dont have to.
