Hi folks: After some people told me about your site I had to have a look to see what all the fuss was about. You guys should be proud! Its the best car forum I have seen. It rocks! After owning varoius Audis and a BMW I decided it was time for a change. I drove a 1st. gen Q45 a couple of years ago and was really impressed with its power, understated luxury and quality. Well I finally found the right one. It is a 91Q45 with 106K, champange with tan interior in pristine condition. My wife flew into Dallas and drove it home 2300 miles( in live in Canada) without a glitch. It runs great, but I still lost some sleep while she was gone, due to the wretched guide issue! I just flushed the transmission and hope to install the guides shortly. Since I do a lot of work on my own cars I will probably do this myself. I picked up a manual for the car today.I have seen a couple of good posts regarding this issue and if anybody have some further tips please let me know. The only other issue with the car is that it looks like it needs a brake/rear light sensor, so if anybody has one for sale let me know. We are really excited about our new Q and plan on keeping it for some time to come.HJ.

About teh brake light sensor:

Often using non OEM bulbs will throw the current off enough the wanring will come on (if thats your problem).

replace teh bulbs with actual OEM from dealer and see what happens before u work on any sensors.

Chances are good that will solve problem.

Thanks for the tips Fred. I have already tried the OEM bulbs, no go. I will let you know what I find out. Hope to sent in pics next week. PS, I saw pictures of your new wheels. WOW! Should make for interesting stories.

Swear to God this is true.

break light sensor tripped 2 weeks after I got the car. (same as yours) tried everything... nothing worked. 9 months later I am driving through Eastern Washington in July, 132 degrees out, speedom stops working, brake warning goes off, that night, as it cools off, warning comes back, speedom works. Next day, driving back to the coast, 134 degrees, speedom quits warning light goes off. Get a ticket for going 98 in a 65 zone. ( I still can't believe I was going that fast, but that's the car, isn't it.) Plead my case that I'm on my way to get speedom fixed. Cop says if I was going 100 he'd have taken me to jail. I shut up and take the ticket. Drive away from the cop, speedom works, warning gone, radar detector (that was mounted under the car front and back with display hidden in ashtray) obviously didn't work. that was 5 and a half years ago. Warning light and speedometer have worked flawlessly ever since. Never could get the radar detector to work.
