Sup guys, just introducing myself. ive been lurking around the place for sometime but decided to be a little more active. i recently picked myself up a 91 q45t. i started out years ago in the honda scene, but got tired of, and made a move to the 240 scene. while in it i was introduced to the vh45de, and i was constantly impressed with it, no matter what car it happened to be in lol. after awhile i decided i wanted a bigger car, and once i found this one for $800, i couldnt pass it up. cosmetically, she is beat up. the previous owner wasnt very kind to her interior or exterior, but at least she kept it running good. the transmission was rebuilt within a year, all injectors and coils were recently replaced as well. the car rides and drives beautifully. the engine was supposedly replaced with a 95 VH, but i havent confirmed that yet, i need to figure out where some marking are that would tell me. anyways, enough with my wall of text, heres a few pictures of the first couple of days i had her. my friend and I had just started to tear it apart, so you can see where we are coming from.

so yeah, hood had unlatched before and was fubar, and you can see some of the interior damage around the cd player. the hood was the first thing i replaced, didnt trust it at all. i got a lot of pics of the progress, so as i upload them ill share.

*edit*
i suppose i can list off some future plans as well. havent thought past the basics, but i already got a maf adapter and a cone filter so i can improve on the intake a little. and ill be hitting up the local junkyards for some parts, like a TCU that starts the car in first. im still a rookie to this car, so im learning as i go.

Congratulations and Welcome to NICO!

I also have a 91 model. If you haven't already, check out http://www.Q45.org

What kind of wheels do you have on it? From the picture looks like Fittipaldi.

Where are you located?

Howdy Neighbor!

My 91 is originally from Odessa/Midland TX -- purchased in OKC.

Do you know if your 91 came from Bob Moore Infiniti in OKC?

If you decide to change your wheels let me know as I might be a buyer..

How many hub caps do you need if any?

Somebody on eBay was selling some (3) a while back for some "way high" price.. I bet they will take less..

Hi,

From the look of the fan and shroud it looks like a 1990-1993 Infiniti Q45 (VH45DE) engine. Of course the injectors can also lie because someone could have swapped in phase two injectors, Look at them anyways. Another way to tell if its a 1990-1993 (very early 1994) is to look at the power transistors. If they are larger and square as compared to the late 1994-1996 VH45DE's power transistor then you have a 1990-1993 Q45 engine.

Use a clamp to push the dashboard down (Where the clock is) someone left the Instrument cluster trim cover half way off and the ignition may have been pushing up on the instrument cluster trim (Part that houses the vents, clock, hazard and dimmer switch.

Find some 1990 Infiniti Q45 seat controls, You won't know how you lived with out them.

Give that engine a good cleaning!

Get the Infiniti Dealer service history and any other receipts from the previous owner(s). Make sure the chain guides have been done.

Clean the air vents as well because you have roughly 20 year old dust sitting behind there. prepare to spend a couple of days with 500 Q-tips. Q-tips for a Q-Car :).

And of course replace all the fluids (Drain and refill or flush) and replace all the filters when you get a chance.

And if you up for it do some reading over here: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B5VDQi ... N2I3&hl=en

The Valve Covers (VC) are another give away, yours have inspection plates where as 1994-1996 Infiniti Q45 engines (VH45DE's) do not.

Use some Lexol cleaner (Orange bottle) and conditioner (Brown bottle) with a rag, NOT a microfiber cloth to clean the interior leather. Advance Auto has a special on that stuff right now as of 9:39 (EST) Sept. 20, 2010. I love the grey on black interior, I think its one of the best interiors for the Q. I am biased though because my first Q had that interior.

Get a OEM coolant cap.

all of the cleaning and fluids are being done, thats just a given when dealing with a new(used) car. i dont understand on the 90 seat controls, is there something special about them? the electric seats work fine with the controls on the door. and am i correct in assuming the power transistors are the pieces mounted to the black piece on the valve covers? i guess were going to have to take the front off to check on the guides. im sure that will be fun.

Yes the power transistors are mounted to the ornament covers (Black piece on the valve cover).

These are the 1990 Infiniti Q45 seat/window controls:

First fix the car though and read as much as you can bear then read some more on your Q45.

man, tonight we replaced the steering rack bushings with some energy suspension ones. the drivers side bushing was destroyed, about half of it was left, and it was in pieces. the passenger side was still in one piece, but all torn up. the car feels so precise now when turning, i love it
