Post

First time user, I just purchased a hardbody truck, 1995, 4wd extended cab V6 Automatic for my son who will be turning 16 later this year. This truck was a one owner, and only has 70K miles. It has a few problems though and I need some help to determine if these are specific to this model year or problematic with this truck series.

First, The steering column plastic pieces were removed from the steering column and when I asked the owner about it he said that "sometimes the key will just quit working and he has to give the ignition module a "jiggle" to get it working"... he further noted that he had taken it to a dealer for repair but could not get the problem to repeat. He did tell me that he thought it had something to do with the turn signals?

Second, the headliner has basically eroded away to the point that you now can see the fiberboard instead of the material, is there a replacement head liner?

Third, there appears to be a rubbing sound coming from one of the rear wheels or in the drive line? I cannot determine where it is coming from but I was just wondering if this model was prone to something like that.

Fourth, the cruise control works "sometimes" according to the previous owner.

Sixth, my son is 6'-5" and can fit behind the wheel but he is basically folded into an accordian when this happens. The previous owner said I could re-set the seat rails to permit the seat to slide back further toward the rear of the cab. Is this really possible? If so, how is it done.

Finally, where I might locate aftermarket parts for this model year?

Thanks in advance.

well, lets see...

1. key sometimes doesn't work... I would check the auto shifter, there is a switch that only allows you to start the vehicle in park or neutral, these can go bad.

2. headliner, do it yourself, fabric stores have headliner material and the 3M adhesive to apply it. very simple to do.

3. the rubbing sound you will just have to search, crawl under vehicle and see if something plastic is rubbing on the tire. you may need to jack the truck up as well.

4. check your connections on the CC, check your vehicle grounds for a good CLEAN contact for that circuit.

5. not sure what your fifth was?

6. resetting the seat rails???? well you could pull the seats out and see if you could remount the rails on the seat. this would take some modifying to do. but then you could possibly need to put some steel in there which would raise the seat and now you have another issue.

common issues would be rust on the frame by the rear axle, headlights not working (I think this was prone to the square dash vehicles) and cleaning the contacts on the switch would fix it 95% of the time.

oh, welcome to the site.
