Howdy, thinking of retiring the Outback for an '02-'04 Pathfinder and had a couple questions:
1. I have pros & cons for both Auto & Manual - is the Auto generally found reliable for these years? I'd prob be looking at one with 100k miles so I would like to know it can go another 150k/200k.
2. If I go Auto, does asking my mechanic, during inspection, to check that all of the power valve screws are present seem asking too much? I'm not sure how quickly these can be checked. Not asking to apply threadlocker, just to see that they're all there and if not I'd just pass.

thank you for any help

The RE4R01A-HD transmissions found in 01+ Pathfinders are generally reliable, especially if fluid has been maintained.

The power valve screws can be inspected if the upper intake manifold is removed. Doesn't take very long, maybe half an hour to 45 minutes.

if the seller lives in a snow/salt road area, you may want to inspect the undercarriage, wheel wells, and look for any soft spots in the flooring, rust, etc
