Brought my ruptured PS hose to a local AC shop (referred by my Infiniti mechanic) and in literally 10 minutes they had fabricated a new one using the banjo fittings from my old hose. $40 plus tax. The tech knew it was from a Nissan.

They hacksawed off the fittings (right above the part where you can get a wrench on the fitting) off and welded them back together once assembled on the new hose. You can rotate the fittings on the new hose and then tighten them down (looked like a compression fitting?). It all went together fine. Pretty neat.

I found this much more desireable than spending $180 (club discount included) on an OEM.

I broke my 'OEM only' rule, and only time will tell if it was a good idea.

If any Arizonans want the info on this shop, let me know.

Is it AAPAK?

Best kept secret in AZ, hell, the nation!

Replaced all A/C hoses in our Sub for around 25% of best aftermarket cost from Checker/PepBoys/AutoZone.

Love 'em. Those guys are the stuff. I go to the one on Grand Ave.

Anybody needing a new pressure hose (A/C, P/S, etc) for ANY vehicle should try to do biz with these guys.

That's good stuff! As you can tell I'm searching through old threads about p/s hoses. Apparently one of the high pressure hoses on Q1 has sprouted a leak. Didn't realize it until Dana started to drive it. I always try to not turn the wheel to the lock and keep the car rolling while turning the wheel... apparently she doesn't There are nice v-shaped p/s trails in the court in front of the house where she backs out of the driveway, then puts it in drive and takes off down the street. What confused me for a while is I never saw a spot on the driveway... apparently it only leaks (shooting stream) when it's turned to the lock or under a heavy load.

Guess I'll try to find one of these places in Columbia tomorrow unless anyone has one on a parts car. It's the high pressure hose that bolts on to the pump and goes down to the small metal hoses that attach to the crossmember...

Yes, any really good AC or industrial hose place should be able to set you up.

Found one - at least I think so! I picked up the hose this evening and will put it on tomorrow. Cost about $55. They cut the ends off of the old hose, welded a "standard" connector on there and then made a hose to go between them. Pretty much what AZQ45 said the place in AZ did.

I took some pictures that I'll post later...

Argh ! Why do these people cut the fittings !!?? All you have to do is slice the collar, index the fittings, re-index them on the new hose and crimp the collars. A 5min job w/o welding ! These kids these days... <shakes head>

I wish you had been there... Put it back on and had a pinhole leak at one of the fittings. They were very appologetic and rewelded it yesterday. Said this is only the second one that came back out of hundreds that she has personally seen in 8 years.

The people actually doing the work have been there longer than I have been alive - so I think it's more "old school" than "these kids" in this case I'm headed to the garage to put it back on, refill, and check for leaks again...

Those are some fine looking hose. (Did I just say that?)

I wish I had more DIY abilities when my high pressure hose leaked. It cost me $374 parts + labor at the less expensive dealer.

Two other things... if anyone is checking this thread in the future and can't find a local hudraulic supplier - you might want to consider shipping your hose to the shop I used. Their contact info is:

G.W. Harrison & Sons, Inc.2401 Alpine RoadColumbia, SC 29223Phone: (803)217-0343Toll Free: (888)886-2308Fax: (803)217-0348Email: [email protected]

______________

Also, I was able to replace the hose and restart the car without having any air issues or pump noise! After putting the hose in, I put ATF in the resivoir and then turned the wheels lock-to-lock several times with the car off. I think that primes the pump. Then when I started the car it pulled more ATF into the system - so I had to top it off. Anyhow, I didn't have any pump whine, growling, or chattering that I've typically had after opening the system.

Woot! It's good to know that other people have used non-OEM hoses before, and even better it was the High pressure P/S hose!

Hahah, like I always say, OEM sucks for the price.

Turn the wheels side to side (and hold for 5 seconds) 3 full cycles to purge the air with the pump running.

Engine noise should remain the same. Incorrect belt tension or a bad pulley bearing may cause noise when most strees is put on pump drive system.

I think I paid almost $100 for for a rebuilt PS hose from an industrial hose shop. What ever your labor rate is, it is higher here in California.

It's seems like an odd industry to have excellent customer service in, but there's a local shop around here that does the same thing. No appointments, have EVERYTHING, fast, friendly, and CHEAP. Way cheaper than to buy the hoses from anywhere else.

For anyone in Colorado, check out Tubes'n'Hoses in Loveland.
