Found myself with a 71 (i think) pl521. It was runnin sortof when i got it. Though it was flooded not too long afterwards. After 3 yrs of sitting, ive finally found an opportunity to put some work in it and get it running again.

Ive basically been handed a mid 80's pathfinder with what i believe to be a z24 motor, still gotta verify. It runs tho the pathfinder is barely recognizeable as its been thoroughly stripped. I plan to pull the entire drivetrain out of the pathfinder and drop it into the 521. I dont expect many issues with the drivetrain, tho the 521 is in bad shape.

Rust in many places and multiple missing parts should make this a bit of an undertaking. Im hoping to end up with a driveable 521 that rides well, has good braking and is a stable platform for further upgrades/modifications.

As im sure you folks are aware, parts and knowledge on the older vehicles isnt common much anymore. Or perhaps i just havent found it yet. Any Info/advice I can get would be greatly appreciated as the sooner I can get this done, the better.

These are some photos of how it looked when I first got it.

Yes, thats a cone filter sticking out of the hood.... Yes, the hooks have been torn from the bedside...This i Must rectify, ideas?Ill have to snap a few updated ones this weekend before i get to far along.

Aside from the filter through the hood, it doesn't look that bad.

I thought the same...till i discovered the original ignition had been traded out for an attempted push button setup, the bench was gutted and laid on the floor pan, the carpet is commercial grade burber, and many areas not visible were rusting..

heres a few pics i took tonight after gettin the donor pathfinder in.First 3 are the pathfinder- im still not certain whether thats the z24 or z24i. last 2 are the 521

Also, Im positive someone had already swapped in an L18 and maybe a L20B head. Im not certain which tranny they used, but its longer than stock given the odd mounting that was done.

Does anyone here know were on the Z24 i would find the block stamp if there is one or how i determine whether is an 'i' or not? I think i may need to take that one to a pathfinder forum tho.

The carb is clearly a weber, tho im not sure which one and whether i can or should use it on the Z24 yet.

If its carbed then it is a NAPz24. it should have 8 spark plugs on carb'd version.

The z24(84-85)

Z24i (86-until replaced with ka24e)

To find out if you have a z24 or z24i block. Z24 engine identification numbers are on the right side of the block, z24i is printed on the left side.
