Ok, we all know our unique climate control switches that pop out at the driver. Theres a button on it to change which vents the air comes out from. That button for me doesn't work. It makes the noise when I press it and the display changes saying its coming from other vents but it never actually changes. It used to only blow out of the upper vents then somehow I hit it and it changed to the Windowsheild vents to defog for the winter. Now its summer and I need to switch it back.

What could the problem be?
How much to fix it? (If I can't do it myself)
Its 98 degrees right now so I need a response ASAP hah. Thanks

the damper actuators aren't working, first check your fuses, next step would be to check the actuator motors for voltage (that ain't fun)

inside the dash, take the dash out of your parts car and look at the air ducts, you'll see a couple of actuators the move doors to divert heat/cool or direction of air flow, it could also be a controller issue

Great, now my AC isn't even cold. Its warm, not HOT but warm. My brother said my headgaskets blown but I don't think so. I would have more symptoms than just no AC wouldn't I?

a blown HG usually results in air in the coolant or coolant in the combustion champer (huge plumes of smoke) or coolant in the oil (makes it look milky)

is the ac compressor coming on? if the compressor isn't coming on you have an issue, most likley low on refrigerant but could still be a number of issues

Well it is original 1991 AC, even the refrigerant. Does it just stop like then when i'm out? I always thought it just eventually gets warmer and warmer. I can hear my throttle bodies open now too when I press the gas and theres a strong gasoline smell too sometimes. I'll figure that out because it's been happening since I bought the car. Ill check the compressor and the refrigerant levels. But my HG is def not blown, good.

I had my flaps freeze up for a while and i just kept driving the car...leaving the AC set to the only level it would blow out of (defog)....after about a week or two i tried to switch it and bam it worked again and has been working since....i think mine had something caught in though.

Good thing I didn't do it, they're the people that wanted to charge me 700 to do the alt. and I had the parts already... So it steam cleaning it a good idea?

When the A/C is on is the air blowing pretty much room temperature? Are the lines in your engine bay cold?

Well I already found out that problem, the belt snapped off because shops down know how to work on my car. I am going to drain and replace my AC compressor and refill it with the new freon. Same with my white car, drain it and sell it then take the AC off.
