I took the dash apart and Just used a big Screw to mount the screen to the Cover. I drilled it out and then used the original mounting brackets on the screen to slide the screen onto the screw. It sits perfect and was easy to do.

Then I gave her a bath and a good waxing...

Sorry the pics didn't turn out so well. I was not very still with my Cell Phone.

Not exactly a stealth install...If I do one, I want it to be hidden when the car is parked.

Looks cool though...do you have it hooked into the ECU yet?

very cool. how are you getting your internet connection (cell phone, other wireless service, etc)?

I'd figure it will only be a matter of time before cars will start coming with touchscreen computers on them so that people can access the internet to get live traffic, restaurant searches, e-mail, twitter, etc.

Cop cars already do.

In reality I have a laptop that could be put into the car and do much of what you speak as is and all of it with just one simple addition. The screen on mine can be rotated over the keyboard and then lay flat. I don't think I would trust it however in a mobile environment.

To me the benefit of a computer in a car is the possibilities it opens up, the ability of being netted into the machine for example is there now so you can monitor everything the car is doing. Because you are using standard types of interfaces such as USB common to the rest of the computer world you are not tied to what is available for cars. Your biggest challenge to me is simply one of reception and for the most part if you can use your cell phone you have the reception necessary. That said this is where someone like XM could shine in the future. Provide a two way communication by satellite and use there model for handling in city types of communication and the problem with reception is pretty much taken car of.

Was reading one of the Europian blog not long ago. They were testing cars with aftermarket parts installed or just cammon things people cary with them. They were crashing cars and left those things inside with dummies. 2 of the most dangerous thing was the after market navi and the lop top. Both would of killed or injured the driver badly 4 out 5 times. Other crazy was the hot coffee. 3 out 5 the coffee ended up on the drivers body.

Not here to scare you DJ just to make sure you screw it down good. I do carry loptop in my car 80% of the time but it is in the back. I've been playing with the idea to get one car computer since I bought my first G. I wanted to put it in the trunk and use the screen I already have from factory.

As mentioned before You should get somebody to hook it up to your car ECU/TCU so you would be able to play with it. Wooohhooooo that be fr_ckin awesome.

Thanks Zozo... But yea i made sure it was really secure!

I love it and i am working on getting the ecu software for it... That is gonna be fun!

I like that i can take it out and hid in glove box and still close the cover. That was my main issue with installing it.

Mind sharing specs (email if you don't want to post it on here). I've been toying with the carputer idea for about 6 months now. I mainly want it for music, but I'm curious how you set yours up. Did you build it from scratch or buy one?

In terms of reception for wireless, there are programs out there that can use GPS coordinates to track WiFi hot spots and will switch hot spots as you move. There are also municipalities that are beginning to provide wireless access across whole jurisdictions. For example, my county is rolling out a county-wide wireless program where anyone can get wireless internet anywhere in the county.

Glad to see you got it up and running. The way you mounted the monitor was way more simple than what I did. It will be a lot easier for you to return it back to stock when you sell it. Which OBDII software are you getting?
