Heres some pics of my car and the ca18det I picked up from pacmanvr4 last week. Its pretty clean, has about 86,000 miles on it according to the cluster in the clip it came out of. Ive seen engines with fewer miles that looked alot worse on the inside, lol. It turns over smooth and compression is supposedly about 165 all the way across, and that was on a cold test they did while it was still in the clip it came in, I havn't verified those numbers yet though. I'm in the middle of putting it back together with new gaskets, timing belt, water pump, pcv valve, drive belts, etc. Basically a full tune up. I'm not really wanting to do the rings, bearings, oil pump, headgasket, etc. right now unless its totally needed so hopefully thats all good. Let me know what you guys think. Heres the links:

Yeah, I noticed the oil cooler, lol. I'm not sure if its a bad or good thing though. I hear they can be a big pain in the ***. I'd kinda rather have an external cooler.

Well there was one person on the board that had problems with them leaking, but that was all that I'd heard. That cooler is probabally the reason that your motor is so clean.

My engine has the oil cooler and I'm not having any dramas. Nice job with the motor, but if you went as far as popped the oil pan, you should have changed the rod bearings because they are very easy to do at that point. But, it looks sweet, man........

and you are correct. CA18DE bearings, rings, rod bolts and head BOLTS are the same (we don't have studs from the factory tim;)) I know these all work because I just replaced all of mine!

I just added a few more pics with the repainted valve cover and the turbo installed. I wanted the valve cover neon pink, not red, so this is temporary until I pick up a powder coating machine. High heat pink paint seems to be non-existant, Ive looked every where.
