Hey everyone, I recently aquired my latest vehicle, a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE. I love it! I've got some questions about it though. I bought it from a dealership and I've owned it for like a week now. I noticed that I cannot lock the vehicle from the key fob. I can unlock it and use the panic button, but for whatever reason it does not lock unless I clock the button like 30-40 times. I brought it back to the dealer and they tried to program a different fob to it, but no luck. They seem to think it's related to the aftermarket deck that was installed in the car when I bought it. Does that make sense to anyone? I don't really see how the two could be related, but what do I know? Speaking of aftermarket decks, I put my Pioneer head unit in and have to turn it up really loud to get any volume to come out of the speakers. It's got the Bose speakers in it. I can hear the amp relay clicking on, but I have to turn the head unit up to about 45-55 out of 62 to get any real loud volume out of the system. I ended up connecting the factory amps via RCA pre-outs on my deck. One end has RCAs on it and the other has the positive and negative wires that I've connected to the factory harness adapter. Is this the correct way to interface with the factory Bose setup?
Thanks for the help!

I think you need to by pass the Bose amps that are attached to each speaker. There is a thread on the subject if you do a search.

Alright cool. I'll poke around for it. So pretty much what you're saying is I can use the Bose speakers, but not the Bose amps? A friend of mine was telling me the speakers and or amps run at 1 ohm? Is that true you think? Thanks again for the help!

I'm not an expert on this but from what I've read from other posts, you are correct on the ohms being different for Bose. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will jump in to set it straight.

You probably have a bad fob. You can get them on e-bay. There were two model numbers with the same FCC number for 2001. Make sure it all matches, they
don't cross. The Model with an A is much less common.

Get two fobs.

That's what I was thinking, but they tried multiple fobs at the dealership, and couldn't get any of them to program in to the system. I think they probably jumped to the aftermarket stereo just because it's the only thing that is not OEM. Would that make any sense? If the stereo was replaced, the keyless entry lock function quit? Seems odd to me.

Let me ask you this. I want to get a new alarm at some point anyway. If I get an aftermarket alarm from say Viper, do I lose all the fancy key lock tricks that the car currently has? You know like when you put the key into the door lock and hold it, it will unlock all the doors. Or the trunk when you click it one way it does one thing and click it the other way it does another thing. Will I lose that functionality?

No, you won't lose any of those functions. You will actually get a LOT of extra functions (depending on the unit you purchase). For example, my Viper remote starter/alarm has the option to program it so that it will close the windows if you hold the lock button (same function as if you were to hold the key in the lock position in the door cylinder).

What?! The windows close if you hold the key in the lock position? That is so cool! I think I might just get a different alarm then. The dealership was supposed to call me back about it, but never did. I suppose this one is going to be kind of a pain for them to install with all this immobilizer chipped key stuff though. Thanks for the help!
