New parking sensor going crazy!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Folks,

I apologize for bringing this up again but none of the earlier threads quite some up my issue.

I had a little fender bender and needed to replace the front bumper cover as well as the driver side parking sensor.

I just had the new sensor installed by my mechanic and we both cannot figure out why the sensor keeps throwing off false readings and beeping like crazy. I mean there is nothing around and the sensor goes off. Stop signs, etc. I thought maybe the entire system needed to reset itself now that it is complete but it has been a few hours.

Is there a reset or calibration sequence that needs to be done?

Thanks in advance!

I had my front left sensor replaced once when I had my ex and the front sensor bracket is different than the rear as one side has sort of a raised "lip". If I remember correctly this raised part needs to be on the bottom so the sensor is not pointing down more than facing straight. There is a section in the service manual on the correct alignment of the sensors. When you are at the dealer take a look at another ex on the lot and 1st make sure they installed a front and not rear sensor ( they are different) and then make sure the sensors they installed are aligned the same as the one on the lot. If you look at them closely you will be able to see what I am talking about.

Ron,

Thanks for the tip. I noticed the box simply said "Parking Sensor" and nothing too specific. My mechanic and I were playing with the aim and it just might be that.

I will you posted.

You would not know unless you knew the specific part numbers. It's more the surrounding clip that holds it in that's different between front and rear. If you look closely at them you will see what I mean. In my case because it was pointing down at the road instead of level it was picking up every bump and divet and going off.

Good luck!

Ron,

I am thinking that is what it has to be. Called my dealer and they reiterated that the sensors are plug and play and probably pointing at terra firma.

Back on the lift this weekend!

Thanks,Jim

Good luck. It may take a little trial and error to get the adjustment right, but you will get it. If you have a regular non infiniti mechanic, it may be a good idea to grab an electronic version of the service manual. (see the sticky topic at the top of the forum). It has come in handy for me several times and you can print specific sections or items related to whateve the issue at hand is. It does get pretty technical and lot of the diagnostics require the Consult III equipment, but there is still plenty of useful stuff not contained in the owners manual for troubleshooting.
