I know that the conventional wisdom is that you must always resurface your rotors when you replace the pads.

I seem to remember, however, a discussion of whether or not this is absolutely necessary with vented and drilled/slotted rotors...

I ask because I am currently driving on "cheapo ebay" generic vented drilled/slotted rotors and I will need to replace the pads very soon.

If it is absolutely necessary to get them resurfaced, I may simply buy brand new rotors, as they are probably cheaper than a resurfacing (~$150 for all 4 from ebay).

Let me know of any input you guys have.

Thanks.

If you think about it resurfacing is just evening out the surface of the rotor to better match the new pad that is put on. But you will still need a break in period but smoothens things out. You can technically just put the pads on and break them in that way and your pads will end up filling the groves automatically. Taking more time.

I should also mention that these "cheapo ebay" rotors I am using are very very new.

I haven't even gone through a full set of pads on them yet (the calipers I used came with some unknown brand purple pads that I have been using)

Im not sure if this changes anything, but I thought it might.

if they are fairly new then you don't really need to resurface them. You should be able to switch the pads no problem and not worry about it. You just need the proper break in time for them.

yeah you should only have to resurface if you can feel like deep grooves caused by your old pads or something
but if you resurface you should make sure that the rotor could still be thick enough to stay within the stock specifications i dont remember what they are off the top of my head tho lol
