The engine light came on last Thursday and I thought it was because of an overdue oil change. Last night, my car stalled at the lights and again this morning when I was on my way to the dealership. The dealer said it's the oxygen sensor so they replaced it at no charge - the car is still under warranty. Lately though, I've notice my engine is getting more noisy i.e. it's getting a harder knock than before but I thought it was because of the oil change so I didn't think much it. Now, I'm a little concern.

A few car loving co-workers informed me that the oxygen sensor should have last longer and the fact that my car only had 16,000 km makes it even stranger. I bought it used at the dealership at 8,000km in June this year so the car was practically new when I bought it.

Anyone else have this problem?

This is NOT a common problem; I wouldn't worry about it. Given the sheer number of components in a modern automobile, it's to be expected that you will have the occasional failures. I've gone 46,000 miles without a single problem, and one of our members has well over 100k and has done nothing to his car outside of oil changes. The only time a component failure is a problem (something to worry about) is when it happens to a large number of vehicles.

Enjoy your car! Be glad it isn't a GM or Ford.
