Hey everyone - new guy here - just bought a 98 Q45 with a problem - it was in limp mode and the po didnt want to repair so I fig. I would give it a try , it throws a p0600 and a p1605 , suspecting the ecm I lucked out on an exact number ecm and installed it but no start ? the ipps light stays on so I am guessing the key dont match the ecm or am I wrong , If I put the old ecm back in it fires right up but still with problems , any suggestions on what to do next before limping it to the dealer , Im not into this for too much money but fear I will be after a visit to the dealer , Thanks

try googling obd p0600 & p1605 and see what comes up and inspect those sub-systems.....thats why the obd system was invented, to make diagnosis easier!!!

Uh thanks but my $5000.00 Snap-on scantool gives me a pretty good starting point - I know what they mean - the question was does the Ipps (infinity personel protection system) have anything to do with the new ecm -I.E. the key not responding so it is in anti-theft mode and if so what is the remedy , i see alot of ecm swaps in the search but find no troubles when doing so , anyone out there had this issue ? not trying to be a jerk but 5264 posts and thats what kind of help you can give - Thanks - google it - whats the reason for this forum then ? I know I'm new here but.....

First things first:
Welocome to NICO!

Just so ya know, some of the regulars around here can be kind of tough on you, especially if you're new.

The best place I'd suggest to look for code information is in the service manual which you can find here:
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/
They only have the manual for 1994-up and I know they changed the ECU in '94, but I don't think the codes changed.

As far as the non-starting and the IPPS problem with the replacement ECU, I remember reading that the ECU has the key coded into it, so since your replacement ECU doesn't match the keys for your car, the security won't let it start.

Welcome aboard! The FSM link should be very helpful... I'm not sure if the ECU and key codes are linked, but it should be covered in there.

Thanks for the welcome guys , The FSM has gotten me through a few other things but the new ecm and key codes dont go together without a trip to the dealer - so im finding out - but if just a flash will do the trick it will be worth the $89.00 - I will let you know what happens there , Thanks Again.

I did a little reading, and you're absolutely right... your new ECU needs to be linked to the keys for your car. That said, ECU failure is very rare - were you able to rule everything else out chasing your P0600 and P1605 codes?

Yes I did verify continuity between the ECM and the TCM for the 0600 code and Checked all grounds and all were good along with all wiring harness conn. between the ECM and TCM , I didnt see any telltale signs of water damage and po says none but the ECM connector looks iffy on the right end of the connector - so I found an exact ECM for $50 I fig. why not , now I am looking for a TCM - dealer wants $800.00 - I will keep looking for now but still have to reflash my new ECM to the keys and go from there.
