I am the proud 2nd owner of a 2003 G35 6MT coupe. I just bought the car last Thursday and I would like to thank the NICO community for all the information here. Browsing through the archives helped to solidify my decision. I am happy I made it, but I do have a few questions.

Looks like the car I purchased has the dreaded "error f0" message from the audio system. I think I'll be talking to George about getting that taken care of.

And now more importantly, the transmission. When I shift from 2nd to 3rd I get distinct grinding while shifting. This does not happen in any other upshift and I am very certain I have the clutch fully engaged when I shift. Secondly, it only happens when shifting at low RPMs (around 2k), but not during spirited shifting (4-6k). Also, if I engage the clutch at low engine speed, wait about one second, and then shift into third, there is no grinding. If I am cruising around 40mph, and engage and hold the clutch in while shifting repeatedly to 2nd and then 3rd, I also get the grinding sound. A friend, who drives an M3, suggested replacing the transmission fluid to royal purple (ie. high end fluid) and check for results.

I still have one yr. left on the powertrain warranty, but I was hoping to avoid the hassle of sending it to the shop if I could. So, anyone else out there experience this issue?

Thanks again for the wealth of knowledge.

you need an audio unit and a transmission to sum it all up.

Might try it until the synchronizers are replaced.

Technique was quite common in an earlier era with balky synchronizers.

This bulletin has been amended. This version is expanding the Model Year range. Please discard all copies of the earlier version.

APPLIED VEHICLES:

2001-2006 - All Models Equipped With Manual Transmission

SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 2001-2006 Infiniti vehicle equipped with Manual Transmission needs servicing for warranty repairs, Nissan Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) HQ Multi 75W-85 oil (P/N 999MP-MTF00P) is required.

Important Note : Nissan MTF HQ Multi 75W-85 oil must be used when performing manual transmission repairs paid by Infiniti. These include warranty, service contract, or goodwill repairs. Infiniti will not reimburse dealers for manual transmission repairs when Nissan MTF HQ Multi 75W-85 oil is not used.

If a manual transmission requires the oil be drained for maintenance or repair (customer pay work), 75W-85 oil is required as the service fill fluid.

Infiniti recommends use of MTF HQ Multi 75W-85 oil, which optimizes shift quality, for customer pay use as well.

Nissan Manual Transmission Fluid and all Infiniti chemicals are ordered through the Direct Ship Chemical Care Product Program.

Thanks for the info. I'm working on getting the warranty transferred to my name and I'll go from there.

So even after getting the transmission potentially replaced, it can continue to occur? That has me worried when the powertrain warranty expires (next year).

12 months/12,000 miles is not much comfort, if it is even that long.

No one warrantees against wear.

So use this over royal purple? I also get the occasional slight grind going from 2nd to 3rd gear at certain rpm's and speeds. Thx
