New Owner: qx56 electrical problems

Hello,

I recently purchased a 04 qx56 with about 190000KMs. For past couple weeks it has been having some issues. I will list them, and if someone has experience/recommendation on how to diagnose the causes or what to repair...please let me know. I don't want to take it into a shop yet.

1. Back-up camera - When putting truck into reverse, sometimes the camera would display like normal, sometimes it would flicks...like when you move around TV antenna and pictures flicks and sometimes i would just see 2 lines.

2. The navigation system sometime shows DISC error. Other times it works perfectly and sometimes a gray screen.

3. Very recent - one of the gauges in the Odometer got stuck and doesnt move. I forget which one.

Any help will be greatly appreciated guys.

1. if you see the colored directional lines still on the screen with a black/no camera image, the camera is most likely at fault. if you dont see ANYTHING but you DO see a BLACK screen, the CCU (Camera Control Unit) is at fault. in addition, the wiring to the camera and the CCU could be damaged, so need to check both.

2. disc servo motor and/or laser is faulty. could be as simple as a dirty lens, could be debris inside the drive causing issues, could be just damaged and in need of replacement.

3. the entire cluster needs to be replaced.

Where is the location of the Disc Drive for NAV, I have read that its under the passenger seat? Did not get a chance to check yet. Its too damn cold in Toronto.

yes its under the driver seat. could have debris,dust, etc. from sitting under there...

Hi, I have had a problem with my 04 qx56. Lately the Gauges have been getting stuck or reading incorrectly. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem? I was told that my fuel sending unit had to be replaced. So I replaced it and the fuel gauge is still getting stuck. Any ideas of what could be the problem? One of the gauge doesn't work. Only when it wants to. It sometimes does a whole turn. The one that shows the speed works. But have noticed recently that it gets stuck. Can someone please give me advise? Thanks in advance

sounds like the entire instrument cluster needs to be replaced.

dint think the fuel pup was causing this issue, howevr with a launch year qx, it was wise to replace.

but yeah this is an instrument cluster issue, and repaolcing it is the solution.

you can also plug up to the obd port and see if there are any DTCs present--there may be and could be from the cluster or a module elsewhere on the canbus (cars computer network).

stop by an auto zone or similar location and have them plug up to the obd port to see if any codes/errors are present. should be a courtesy service.
