Hello again everyone. My brother is (as of yesterday) the proud new owner of a 96 I30 (not in fact the j30 as I stated in my previous post). I would like to know as much about this car as you all are willing to offer. I have searched the web and not come up with much. About all I know so far is that it is a 6 cylinder and may be the maximas sister car. I am going to use the search feature here on nico but I would also like some general impressions of the car and anything technical you can offer. Any problems to look out for? Strong points? Weak points? Anything at all. Thanks again!

you're puttin us to the test aren't ya?You're correct about the I30 and maxima being sister cars, I would even say fraternal twins.I like the car A lot. It's more comfortable and roomy inside then the J30 but it lacks some styling on the interior. It has the VQ 3.0 motor, FWD. It's easy to drive around as it's power is readily available even at low engine speeds...unlike to the J30. difference between the VG series and VQ series I suppose.Weak points...weak points...hmmm...none! Nothing major has afflicted this car. CV joints tend to go out after 100,000 miles but that's natural for any FWD. They're prone to power steering leaks but that's because a hose wasn't tightened enough at the manufacturer. Be carefull if your car has this problem and you take it to the dealer to fix as they seem to want to replace the pump everytime. Also make sure your brother only uses OEM lights for the headlights and foglights as they will frequently blow out and melt the housings if the proper lights aren't used. There's nothing else that I can think of that has affected this car right now.good luck! and tell your brother congrats on his new purchase!

IMO your brother made a great choice! Had I not bought a new Maxima this year, I probably would have gotten a 4th gen Maxima/I30. Mayhem is right about these being more fraternal twins than regular brother/sister. They are the same car. One is just a little more "stuck-up" than the other but I love them both! Reliability has been awesome on both and Consumer Reports recomends them both as new or used. And the engines are awesome!
