I am a new owner of a 99 Q45. The car idles fine and seems to run ok other than slow acceleration. Being a V8 I am sure it's got more power and performance than how it's been running right now. I had the car just a week so, planning on regular tune up this weekend (oil, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc). Anything specific I need to check or replace that will cure the snail pace acceleration?

Thanks

d

Frankly, if you're planning a "tune up", you should take it to T3:

http://www.t3auto.com/

They're one of the very best shops in the country for Q45s. They'll know. They've worked on literally 1000s of Qs. Have them hook it up to Consult and see what it shows.

You're lucky to be in Atlanta (other than the ridiculous heat this year - I was just there last week - ugh.)

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Also make sure you are putting in 91+ fuel in the car. Anything lower than 91+ engine is retarding timing to prevent knocking.

I should also add that the car is not that fast to begin with AND the ride/quiet etc smothers the sensation of speed.

although the car is over 4000lbs, I expect it to accelerate a bit quicker thank a geo metro.....hehe. Anyway, hopefully after the tune up, it will run better. I tried to look up the part under "knock sensor" but no luck. what is the specific name or part I need to look for?

Thanks guys

Try "Detonation Sensor".

Failure to be familiar with simple components as a " knock sensor" and where they might be located [since every engine for the past 20 years has had at least one] doesn't bode well for a quick solution and resolution of your problems.

Impossible to even start without an OBD2 scanner and some other simple test equipment. Why not call TY at South Cobb and 285 T3 shop and get an $85 diagnostic and a list of problems and solutions. It will save you lots of time even if you decide to do the work yourself.

All Nissan and Infiniti dealers stock KS [harnesss only at Infiniti] because every Nissan eats sensors eventually from summer heat and cracking of plastic housing.

Not every engine, or even every passenger vehicle engine, in the last 20 yrs has had one or more knock sensors... but yeah, this new Q owner needs to do some more reading. I do too, when it comes down to it.

A cost effective approach so you can budget for remedying deferred maintenance.

You need to download and read the FSM and TSB. Presuming you have studied the OM.
