Hello all,

I've always loved the 300zx I was finally able to get one. It's 1991 TT with 119k. I didn't get it in the most perfect conditions and I knew some work was needed. I've had the car for about 2 weeks already changed the differential which was the main problem.

I'm trying to figure out what seems like an electrical problem. The rear lights do not turn on they work only when I press on the breaks. I tired to look and figure things out myself but nothing has worked. If anyone has experienced this before please let me know how you fixed it.

There's other things I need to fix and I will have questions in the future but this is one I cant figure out.

Thank you all,

Wow, amazing condition for the exterior- nice buy!
As for the brake light issue, the relay when it goes bad makes them operate in reverse- you should also get a light in the dash when you use brakes to further indicate the issue. The fsm in the "everything you need to know...Z32" sticky will get you through this repair, pretty easy and inexpensive compared to most Z32 issues.
Good Luck and enjoy!

Correct, it's the online version of the Factory Service Manual...looks like you are on the right path!

Ok guys so I need help identifying two things. I tried to use the manual but I am not sure if i'm correct. If any of you experienced Z32 guys can I help I would love it.

1. This came disconnected and bypassed by the previous owner. I think its either the "V.T.C. solenoid valve (F5)" or the "exhaust gas sensor (F6)". I could be wrong but im leaning with F6 since the car came with a 2.5" megan down pipe.

2. I have a warning light on the dash I couldn't find it anywhere online or in the manual. Making an educated guess I think it has something to do with my rear lamps/ break light issues i'm having.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you !!

Tony (MadTDogg) is a Bahhstanahhhhite I believe but it's been some time since he's lurked here. I'll hit hi up on FB and let him know there's another New Englander in our midst

1. Looks like the knock harness, follow the other half (unplugged mate), if it disappears under the middle of the plenum its the knock sensor. People do this as a shortcut because changing the knock sensor requires removal of the upper and lower plenum which requires removal of the timing belt (so no small job). Lucky for you there are ways to relocate the knock sensor, search "Z32 knock sensor relocation" or "vg30de knock sensor relocation"

2. Under normal operation this light will come on when you hit the brakes to tell you that you have a bulb out, given your issues however it looks like you're going to have to do some poking around with a multimeter to find where your circuit is faulted.
