I was lucky enough to get a 92 Q45 for 700 it has 187000 miles and seemed to run well when I test drove it. When I got it home I replaced some fuses and got the brain working now we cant get over 35 to 40 MPH and it is chugging gas like a frat boy. Anyone that has any advice please let me know if I should run without the brain for now (I am broke) or just give up hope. If there is anyone in Chandler Az please say hiAnd yes I read the chain link. Thx for any help

Why would you buy a $40,000 16 year old car that had depreciated to $700 and not consider it was sold for a reason and that reason was it needed significant work to return to as new operating condition.

I know members get tired of hearing this but to protect the innocent [teenagers] or automotive challenged it must be repeated CONSTANTLY.

If you can give us how the previous owners spent what should have been $15-20,000* in repairs and mainteance we can help develop a suggested repair/ehabilitation scheme.

* at dealer cost obviously independents and junkyard parts are less expensive but not by half unless they were technicans themselves.

All I can point out is every prebuy inspection we've done on 92 in the past 7 years reported a need for $3,000 to $10,000 in repairs [quoted at a range of $65-$85 per shop hour] on what were good looking paint, body, and interiors units offered for sale by lots and individuals.

I replaced the fuse for the computer on the left side of the box and now the display on the dash works but it says things like tail lights inoperative and brakes need replaced. I checked the pads they are fine and all lights work properly so I think the cpu is bad any help is apreciated

Truth sometimes hurts, but trying to run with no ECU might be evidence you have no regard for it. At best, you will be in fail safe mode. What's the point?

And yes, you can also drive it without tires, but not very far nor very well.

So by computer and brain you mean the instrument cluster? Specifically what fuse did you replace... what is it labeled? How did it run before and after? What did the former owner tell you regarding the work the car needed?

The fuse is the one that allows the display to show on the panel which exact one I dont remember I know its not the best to run it without the epu but right now its all I have and I would love to be able to rebuild it to its former glory but getting to work and being mobil is all I can hope for right now I would appreciate it if the negitive people would stop cause O know all the bad parts but am just asking for some advice on this one issue

Let 'em suffer. And if you do have to repeat constantly then do it nicely. There is absolutely no excuse for insulting a member-especially somebody thats brand new!!

Returning negative with negative will do no good. Q45Tech is one of this forums lifelines and I would not recommend insulting him unless you want to be dumped on your head by all other members.

That being said you are running the car without an ECU (engine control unit)? Is that even possible? The car will kill its self without the ECU. At least go to a junkyard and buy a used one for $15 so you don't do any more damage.

I think our challenge is that we have no idea what isssue you're asking about. We don't know what was disabled on your car, which is why I asked specifically what fuse you replaced - as well as the before and after symptoms. Your situation isn't exactly typical - it's not like a question about a condition on an otherwise good condition car where we can narrow it down easily. We need as much description as possible on what's going on and what (if anything) the seller told you about the car.

The car wont kill itself without an ECU. It will simply just not run. It wont know to spray fuel and it wont know to fire coils. Oil pumps are mechanical so that wouldn't change without an ECU.

Pretty simple, no ECU = no run.

In the same opening paragraph proves you are a Q45 challeged individual, I wasn't being mean or condescending just truthful. As truthful as I would be to any new customer who just bought an old Q into shop and said exactly the same thing.

My Free Job here is to tell the TRUTH no matter how painful.

We have other members who sugar coat and make you feel good. Others of course those love community misery.

Unfortunately we have to tell the truth on a daily basis and avoid being politically correct mot to avoid hurting someones feeling: BECAUSE we have been accused of suckering repair customers in, by sugar coating the defects to gain extra revenue periodically over the year - repair things not revealed initially.

We see the pain and anguish daily of those taking food from children, money from the collection plate, to keep a old lux car on the road.... Mostly old Lexus owners.

for the brake pad I think you should check the sensors and make sure there plugged in because I had a dummy former mechanic that installed the front brake pads with out soldering on the wear sensor so my "brake pads worn" light is on. and check to make sure that the sensors are all connected and everything. so make sure the front sensor is soldered on.

Did the car come with a Manuel?

Or unplug the battery for 5 minutes and see if that fixes the warnings.

After reading about your problems I will offer the following: If you are really interested in keeping and re-habbing this car then you shouldfind the FSM (Factory Service Manual) for your year car and study it for starts. I note that you are in a "broke condition" but you may come across one used on Ebay or other places. I also note that you appear to be not too knowledgeable about cars?If that is true then you will be hard put trying to learn anything from scratch on these forums. Your questions so far, and, the answers offered indicate that, never mind the rebukes.

Further being "broke" and fooling around with these Q45 cars is not a good idea IMO. In fact they will make a moneyed person squirm in financial pain.

SorryJack

The limit on the speed sounds like fail-safe mode. How's the transmission? Is it shifting properly? Or is it just engine trouble?
